Double Negative (band)
Double Negative was an American hardcore punk band from Raleigh, North Carolina. Guitarist Scott Williams (aka: Epic Warfare) previously played in American Lore (with Mike Dean from Corrosion of Conformity), Fight 4 Life, Second Coming, Days Of..., Dixie Automotive, Garbageman, Daddy and Volcanoes. Original drummer Brian Walsby had been in California's Scared Straight, Willard, Shiny Beast and Patty Duke Syndrome (with Ryan Adams), as well as Wwax, Daddy, Siberian, Snake Nation (with Mike Dean and Woody Weatherman of Corrosion of Conformity) and even the final Polvo lineup that recorded ''Shapes'' before they disbanded. Original singer Kevin Collins (aka: KC) was in Subculture, Days Of and Erectus Monotone. Bassist Justin Gray was in Dixie Automotive, Big Dan, Willard, Garbageman, The Rails, and The Step Gods. ''Shapes'' is Polvo's fourth studio album and the last album released prior to breaking up shortly after its release. It was recorded by Bob Weston and released on Touch and Go Records in 1997. Reception Tom Schulte of ''Allmusic'' called it "a fascinating record that takes great liberties with rock-n-roll", noting its combination of "fuzzed-out blasts ala Blue Cheer with quasi-psychedelic twanging and droning." He ends his review by "predicting" as "a safe bet" that the band "will be looked on as one of the better bands of the 90s". ''The A.V. Club'' compared the album to a "3-D relief map, with straight organic rock at its high points and structured geometric sound at the lows", calling it "the sort of journey that meanders through these elements in a way that deserves more attention than your average "post-rock" album". Negative Approach
Negative Approach is an American hardcore punk band, formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1981. The band is considered among the pioneers of hardcore punk, particularly in the Midwest region. Like most hardcore bands, Negative Approach was little known in its day outside of its hometown. It is now idolized in the Detroit rock underground and the punk subculture, considered to be one of the elite bands of the "old school" era, and continues to be influential. Negative Approach initially broke up in 1984 with singer John Brannon moving on to the Laughing Hyenas, and later Easy Action, but the band has reformed as of 2006 and continues to tour sporadically. Off! (stylized as OFF!) is an American hardcore punk supergroup, formed in Los Angeles, California in late 2009 by Circle Jerks/ Black Flag singer Keith Morris, Burning Brides frontman Dimitri Coats, Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and Rocket From The Crypt/Hot Snakes drummer Mario Rubalcaba. In 2021, it was announced that the line-up changed, with McDonald and Rubalcaba replaced by Autry Fulbright II and Justin Brown, respectively. The band are known for playing short, intense punk songs, with ''Pitchfork'' describing the band as "a vital blast of classic hardcore." Polvo
Polvo is an American indie rock band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The band formed in 1990 and is fronted by guitarists/vocalists Ash Bowie and Dave Brylawski, with Steve Popson playing bass guitar and Brian Quast playing drums. Eddie Watkins was the band's original drummer, but did not rejoin the band upon its reunion in 2008, after breaking up in 1998. The band was critically acclaimed from the outset. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Punk rock in California, Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant History of the hippie movement, hippie cultural climate of the time.
