Dorton Halt Railway Station
Dorton Halt railway station was a railway station serving the village of Dorton in Buckinghamshire. It was on what is now known as the Chiltern Main Line. The station was geographically nearer to Brill than Brill and Ludgershall railway station. History Dorton Halt was opened on 21 July 1937, being situated between Brill & Ludgershall and Haddenham on the Great Western Railway's Bicester cut-off line, which had opened in 1910. It was built to serve the villages of Dorton, Wotton, Chilton and Ashendon, which lay in an agricultural district, and together had a population of 650. There were two platforms, each with a shelter; the station was electrically lit. The line became part of the Western Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948. Dorton
Dorton (or Dourton) is a village and civil parish in the Aylesbury Vale district of Buckinghamshire. It is in the western part of the county, about north of the Oxfordshire market town of Thame. Manor The village toponym is derived from the Old English for "farm at a narrow pass". The Domesday Book of 1086 records it as ''Dortone'', and in the 13th century it was ''Durtone''. Before the Norman conquest of England Alric, son of Goding, a thegn of Edward the Confessor, held the manor of Dorton. However, the Domesday Book records that by 1086 the Norman baron Walter Giffard held it. Dorton House is a Grade I listed Jacobean mansion to the south of the village. Chilton is a village and civil parish in Aylesbury Vale district in Buckinghamshire, England. It is in the west of the county, about north of Thame in Oxfordshire. Chilton parish includes the hamlet of Easington (not to be confused with the Oxfordshire village of Easington). Manor The toponym "Chilton" is derived from the Old English for "young man's farm". The Domesday Book of 1086 records it as ''Ciltone''. It evolved via the forms ''Chiltone'' in the 12th century and ''Schelton'' in the 18th century before reaching its present form. The Transport Act 1947 (10 & 11 Geo. 6 c. 49) was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Ashendon
Ashendon is a small village and civil parish in Buckinghamshire, England. It is about nine miles west of Aylesbury and seven miles north of Thame. The toponym is derived from the Old English for "Hill overgrown with ash trees". The Domesday Book of 1086 records the village as the property of the Grenville family; it was called ''Assedune''. The original name refers to the fact that in Saxon times this area was forested, serving as hunting land for the king. Wotton Underwood
Wotton Underwood is a village and civil parish in Buckinghamshire, England, north of Thame, Oxfordshire. The toponym is derived from the Old English for "farm near a wood". It is recorded in the ''Anglo-Saxon Chronicle'' of AD 848 as ''Wudotun'' and in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ''Oltone''. The affix "Underwood" was added later to distinguish the village from other places also called Wotton.
