Dorothy Pelham
Dorothy Pelham born Dorothy Catesby became Dorothy Dormer and Dorothy, Lady Pelham (died 30 September 1613) was an English benefactor. Life She has the daughter of Isabel and Anthony Catesby of Whiston where her father had paid for the local church. In 1550 she made her first marriage when she became the second wife of Sir William Dormer who already had a small family. William was of strong Catholic sympathies. His uncle, Sebastian Newdigate had died for his beliefs in 1535. The Eythorpe mansion was extended in 1610 by Dorothy Pelham, (One source says Sir William Dormer) this was her house from her first marriage. Her second husband William Pelham styled himself as "from Eythorpe", but this was more true of Dorothy who had her own financial independence. Death and Legacy The burial register records her death of 30 September 1613 where she is described as "The Good Lady Dame Dorothe Pelham". William Dormer
Sir William Dormer, KB (died 17 May 1575) was a Tudor knight, captain and politician. Biography William Dormer was born before 1514, the only child of Sir Robert Dormer of West Wycombe and of Wing, Buckinghamshire, and London (died 2 or 8 July 1552), and his wife Jane Newdigate (d. 1568), daughter of John Newdigate (died 15 August 1528) of Harefield, Middlesex, by Amphyllis Neville (d. 15 July 1544). From 1535 until 1559, Dormer's main residence was Eythrope in Buckinghamshire. A William Dormer was in the service of Thomas Cromwell, and considered for transfer to royal service in 1538."William was a baptismal name much favoured by the Dormer family and the career of the only son of Sir Robert Dormer before the 1540s is all but impossible to disentangle from those of his numerous kinsmen". Anthony Browne, 1st Viscount Montagu
Anthony Browne, 1st Viscount Montagu, KB, PC (29 November 1528 – 19 October 1592) was an English peer during the Tudor period. Biography Anthony Browne was the eldest of the six sons of Sir Anthony Browne by his first wife, Alice Gage (d. 31 March 1540/1), the daughter of Sir John Gage of Firle, Sussex. Browne was elected a member of parliament for Guildford in 1545, and named standard-bearer jointly with his father in 1546. Before 16 February 1547 he was appointed as an equerry in the royal stables. He was among the forty Knights of the Bath created at the coronation of King Edward VI on 20 February 1547. According to Elzinga, Browne's conservative views, and particularly his support for Henry VIII's daughter, Princess Mary, antagonized the Edwardian regime, but he was nonetheless re-elected for Guildford in 1547, and at his father's death on 28 April 1548 was allowed to purchase his wardship for £333 6s 8d, although he was replaced as standard-bearer, as being too you ... ''Sir'' is a formal honorific address in English for men, derived from Sire in the High Middle Ages. Both are derived from the old French "Sieur" (Lord), brought to England by the French-speaking Normans, and which now exist in French only as part of "Monsieur", with the equivalent "My Lord" in English. Traditionally, as governed by law and custom, Sir is used for men titled as knights, often as members of orders of chivalry, as well as later applied to baronets and other offices.
