Allan Dwan
Allan Dwan (born Joseph Aloysius Dwan; April 3, 1885 – December 28, 1981) was a pioneering Canadian-born American motion picture director, producer, and screenwriter. Early life Born Joseph Aloysius Dwan in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Dwan, was the younger son of commercial traveler of woolen clothing Joseph Michael Dwan (1857–1917) and his wife Mary Jane Dwan, née Hunt. The family moved to the United States when he was seven years old on December 4, 1892 by ferry from Windsor to Detroit, according to his naturalization petition of August 1939. His elder brother, Leo Garnet Dwan (1883–1964), became a physician. Allan Dwan studied engineering at the University of Notre Dame and then worked for a lighting company in Chicago. He had a strong interest in the fledgling motion picture industry, and when Essanay Studios offered him the opportunity to become a scriptwriter, he took the job. Chick Morrison
Charles Pacific Morrison (1878–1924), an American silent film actor, was born April 3, 1878 in Morrison, Colorado. The grandson of pioneer town founder George Morrison, he was known as "Chick" to many who knew him, a nickname conjunction of his first and middle names. A keen horse rider, he often appeared in riding contests and rodeos throughout the American west. At Morrison he trained horses for trick and fancy riding as well as break in wild horses. In 1909 Essanay Studios brought one such horse to Morrison to film some of their famous '' Broncho Billy'' series of 2-reel thrillers. Morrison got the director's attention through his expert horsemanship, daring maneuvers, as well as his control over the animals, and was used as a double for the lead actor in some of the more dangerous scenes. Vivian Rich (May 26, 1893 – November 17, 1957) was an American silent film actress. Career Rich was born in Philadelphia and spent her early years there. Later the family moved to Boston and she completed her education at the Boston Latin High School. From high school she went to the stage and played in musical comedy before joining the American film company. She lived with her mother in Santa Barbara, California. She was signed by the Nestor Film Company in 1912 and starred in almost 200 films. Rich retired from films in 1931. Jacques Jaccard (September 11, 1886 – July 24, 1960) was an American film director, writer and actor whose achievements in cinema were mostly in silent film. He directed 86 films and wrote scripts for 80 films. The best-known of his films as a director was ''The Diamond from the Sky'' (1915). Biography Jaccard told reporters he was born in New York City and educated in France. He moved back to the U.S. around 1913 and began a career as an actor and assistant director, specializing in western and action films at Universal early on. In the mid-1920s, after returning from serving in World War I, he began working for lower-rent studios such as Goodwill Pictures, Syndicate Pictures, and Arrow Pictures. When movies with sound became popular, Jaccard's career went downhill; he directed his last film, '' Señor Jim'', in 1936. After that, he worked as a screenwriter and dialogue director.
