Dorothea Hofmann
Dorothea (née Schmid) Hofmann (born 9 October 1929), also known as Dorli is a Swiss graphic designer, artist, educator and the author of ''Die Geburt eines Stils'' (The Birth of a Style). She is one of the first students who passed the Basel education model. She took several educational trips to various parts of the world. Hofmann collaborated closely with her partner Armin on developing design education. Life and work Hofmann trained as a graphic designer at Schule für Gestaltung Basel, Switzerland. Dorothea married graphic designer and pedagogue Armin Hofmann in 1953 during her third year of a graphic design course where Armin was her teacher. Armin had opened a graphic design studio with Dorothea in 1947. Dan Friedman (graphic Designer)
Dan Friedman (1945– July 6, 1995) was an American educator, graphic and furniture designer. He was a major contributor to the postmodern and new wave typography movements. Early life and education In 1945, Dan Friedman was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology. After that, he studied at the Ulm School of Design. There, he studied graphic design. He also studied at Schule für Gestaltung Basel. There, he studied under Wolfgang Weingart and Armin Hofmann. In 1969 he moved back to the United States. Career Upon returning to America, Friedman was senior designer at Anspach Grossman Portugal, from 1975 to 1977. For three years, from 1970–73, he taught at Yale University. Barbara Stauffacher Solomon
Barbara "Bobbie" Stauffacher Solomon (born 1928) is an American landscape architect and graphic designer. She is well known for the large scale interior Supergraphics that were highly influential in the 1960s and 70s and exterior signage at Sea Ranch in Sonoma County, California. Early life and education Barbara Stauffacher Solomon was born in 1928 as a third-generation San Franciscan. As a young woman Stauffacher Solomon studied and worked as a dancer, as well as studying painting and sculpture at San Francisco Art Institute. In 1948, at 20 years-old, she married the filmmaker Frank Stauffacher. The designer and printmaker Jack Stauffacher was her brother in law. Inge Druckrey
Inge Druckrey (born 1940 in Germany) is a designer and educator, who brought the Swiss school of design to the United States. She taught at Yale University, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Hartford, Philadelphia College of Art, Kunstgewerbeschule in Krefeld, The University of the Arts, Kansas City Art Institute. April Greiman
April Greiman (born March 22, 1948) is an American designer widely recognized as one of the first designers to embrace computer technology as a design tool. Greiman is also credited, along with early collaborator Jayme Odgers, with helping to import the European New Wave design style to the US during the late 70s and early 80s." Wolfgang Weingart
Wolfgang Weingart (6 February 1941 – 12 July 2021) was an internationally known graphic designer and typographer. His work was categorized as Swiss typography and he was credited as "the father" of New Wave or Swiss Punk typography. Childhood Weingart was born near the Swiss border of Germany, in the Salem Valley, in 1941. He lived near Lake Constance for about thirteen years and spent his childhood in Germany, moving to Lisbon in 1954 with his family. Education In April 1958 he returned to Germany and began his studies at the Merz Academy in Stuttgart, where he attended a two-year program in applied graphic arts. The Schule für Gestaltung Basel (Basel School of Design), located at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule in Basel Switzerland, and its students have influenced the international graphic design community since it opened in 1968.
