Claudius Dornier
Claude (Claudius) Honoré Désiré Dornier (born in Kempten (Allgäu), Kempten im Allgäu on 14 May 1884 – 5 December 1969) was a France–Germany relations, German-French airplane designer and founder of Dornier GmbH. His notable designs include the 12-engine Dornier Do X flying boat, for decades the world's largest and most powerful airplane. He also made several other successful aircraft. Biography The son of a France, French wine importer and his German wife, Claude Dornier was born in Bavaria where he grew up and attended school, with science being his chief interest. Dornier then moved to Munich, where he graduated in 1907 from the Technical University of Munich, Technical University. As a young engineer, Dornier first worked on Strength of materials, strength calculations at the Nagel Engineering Works in Karlsruhe. Dornier Flugzeugwerke was a German aircraft manufacturer founded in Friedrichshafen in 1914 by Claude Dornier. Over the course of its long lifespan, the company produced many designs for both the civil and military markets. History Originally Dornier Metallbau, Dornier Flugzeugwerke took over Flugzeugbau Friedrichshafen production facilities ( Weingarten, Warnemünde, and the former Zeppelin shed at Manzell) when it failed in 1923. Dornier Wines
Dornier Wines, established in 1995, is located at foot of the Stellenbosch Mountains in South Africa's Stellenbosch wine region. The winery is named after the German artist Christoph Dornier; he was the youngest son of aircraft designer Claude Dornier. In 1995 Dornier started the estate by purchasing their first of five farms and the winery has since grown to more than 800 hectares. The land itself has a wine-growing history that dates to the mid 1960s. Since 2006, Dornier has been a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative, which contributes to the sustainable cultivation of the vineyards and the protection of the local fynbos. In 2007 Dornier opened their Bodega Restaurant in one of the oldest buildings of Stellenbosch.
