Doris Beck
Doris Lew Beck (1929 – July 12, 2020) was an American Democratic Party politician who was the first woman to serve as Mayor of Livingston, New Jersey, and the first woman to serve as a Mayor in Essex County, New Jersey. She was born in Chehanovietzer (Ciechanowiec), Poland, the daughter of Benjamin and Miriam Lew. She worked as an English teacher and was the President of the League of Women Voters. She was elected to the Livingston Township Council in 1974, defeating two Republican incumbents, and became Mayor in 1975. She was re-elected in 1978. Ciechanowiec (; yi, טשעכֿאַנאָװיץ, german: Rudelstadt) is a small town in Gmina Ciechanowiec, Wysokie Mazowieckie County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, eastern Poland. As of December 2021, the town has a population of 4,511. History In the sixteenth century the city belonged to the Kiszka family. In the mid-sixteenth century Castellan of Trakai, Piotr Kiszka built a castle on the right bank of the river Nurzec, northeast of the town. Between 1617–1642, Mikołaj Kiszka ordered to build heavy defensive walls around the fortress, but soon the castle burned down during the Deluge, and the surviving buildings with the newly built residence for the Ossoliński family were later blown up and destroyed by the Imperial Russian Army during World War I (1915). The League of Women Voters (LWV or the League) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan political organization in the United States. Founded in 1920, its ongoing major activities include registering voters, providing voter information, and advocating for voting rights. In addition, the LWV works with partners that share its positions and supports a variety of progressive public policy positions, including campaign finance reform, health care reform, and gun control. Bruce David Beck (born September 18, 1956) is the lead sports anchor at WNBC. He is in his 25th year with News 4 New York. He is also the host of Sports Final, WNBC's popular Sunday night sports show. Beck is the host and sideline reporter for New York Giants pre-season football. In November 2021, Broadcasting & Cable honored Bruce as the top local sports anchor in America.
