Dorick M. Wright
Dorick McGowan Wright (November 15, 1945 – April 15, 2020) was a Belizean prelate. From 2006 to 2017, he has served as the fourth bishop of the Catholic Church for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Belize City-Belmopan. Pope Francis accepted his resignation on 26 January 2017 and appointed Fr. Lawrence Sydney Nicasio as the new bishop. Early life Wright grew up in the Holy Redeemer Cathedral parish in what was then British Honduras. His first cousin was Anglican bishop Philip Wright and his uncle was Pastor Lloyd Wright from Bethel Assembly of God Church. In 1961, while in his mid-teens, he lost his mother, two sisters, and a brother in hurricane Hattie. The tree image on Bishop Wright's coat of arms is symbolic of the mango tree that saved his life. Conception Abbey
Conception Abbey, site of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, is a monastery of the Swiss-American Congregation of the Benedictine Confederation. The monastery, founded by the Swiss Engelberg Abbey in 1873 in northwest Missouri's Nodaway County, was raised to a conventual priory in 1876 and elevated to an abbey in 1881. In 2021 the community numbered fifty-eight monks who celebrate the Eucharist and Liturgy of the Hours daily and who staff and administer Conception Seminary College, The Printery House, and the Abbey Guest Center. Monks also serve as parish priests and hospital chaplains in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph and other dioceses. Christopher Glancy, C.S.V. (born April 10, 1960) is an American-born bishop of the Catholic Church in Belize. He has been the auxiliary bishop of the Belize City-Belmopan Diocese since 2012. Early life and education Christopher John Glancy was born in Moline, Illinois. He was educated at Alleman High School in Rock Island, Illinois and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Loyola University of Chicago. He professed religious vows in the Clerics of St. Viator, also known as the Viatorians, on July 16, 1983. He taught at the Colegio San Viator in Bogota, Colombia for four years. Glancy made his perpetual profession on July 13, 1986. He earned a master of divinity degree, specializing in the theology of missions, from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. The Clerics of Saint Viator (french: Clercs de Saint-Viateur ), abbreviated C.S.V. and also known as the Viatorians is a Roman Catholic clerical religious congregation of Pontifical Right for men (priest, brothers and lay associates) founded in Lyon, France, in 1831 by Father Louis Querbes. San Ignacio, Belize
San Ignacio and Santa Elena are towns in western Belize. San Ignacio serves as the cultural-economic hub of Cayo District. It got its start from mahogany and chicle production during British colonisation. Over time it attracted people from the surrounding areas, which led to the diverse population of the town today. San Ignacio is the largest settlement in Cayo District and the second largest in the country, after Belize City. History The town was originally named El Cayo by the Spanish. On 19 October 1904, El Cayo was officially declared a town by the government of British Honduras. In the past a creek ran between the Macal and the Mopan rivers one mile outside of San Ignacio going toward Benque Viejo. This creek then fulfilled the definition of an area of land completely surrounded by water and thus the name Cayo, "island". Luigi Pezzuto (born 30 April 1946) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He ended his career serving as the Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro from 17 November 2012 to 31 August 2021.
