Doral College
Doral College is a private, non-profit institution of higher learning based in Doral, Florida. Inception Doral College was founded to offer college credits to charter high school students. The school is a joint venture between Doral Academy Preparatory School, a charter high school in South Florida, and Academica, a for-profit education company. The college is located on the campus of Doral Academy Preparatory School, and offers online and hybrid courses to its student body as well. In 2014, Academica was paid 7.5% of Doral College's fees, in addition to $9 million in management fees from publicly funded charter schools. Accreditation Doral College initially functioned without accreditation, which was a source of considerable controversy. Doral is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. One of 34 municipalities in the county, it is located west of Miami International Airport and west of Downtown Miami. Doral occupies bordered on the west by the Ronald Reagan Turnpike and the Florida Everglades, on the north by the town of Medley, on the east by the Palmetto Expressway and on the south by the Dolphin Expressway and the city of Sweetwater. As of the 2020 census, Doral had a population of 75,874, up from 45,704 in 2010. Doral has operated under the mayor-council-manager form of government since incorporation. Doral Academy Preparatory High School is a public charter middle/high school located in Doral, Florida, United States. The school is supported by Academica, an education service provider. Curriculum The school offers twenty-nine Advanced Placement (AP) courses and several honors courses. Dual enrollment courses at Miami Dade College and Florida International University are available beginning in sophomore year. The goal of the Scholars Program is for students to simultaneously graduate with an Associates of Arts degree and a high school diploma. Academica is a for-profit private education company headquartered in Miami, Florida. As an education service provider (ESP), it services over 200 public charter schools in the United States. It is owned and managed by CEO Fernando Zulueta and is considered one of Florida's largest school management companies. In 2011 it reported $158 million in revenue.
