Doora ( ga, Dúire) is a village and civil parish in County Clare, Ireland, just to the east of the town of Ennis. Name In Irish the word ''Dúr'' means "water", and ''Dúire'' means "of water", so the name means the parish of the water or bog. Location The parish is on the western border of the barony of Bunratty Upper, just east of the town of Ennis. It is and covers . The land includes bog, upland pasture and farmland. It is drained by the River Quin, which runs southwest into the River Fergus. The population in 1841 was 2,365 in 370 houses. Doora-Barefield
Doora-Barefield is a parish in County Clare and part of the Abbey grouping of parishes within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe. It lies to the north and east of the town of Ennis and includes the suburb of Roslevan, Ennis, Roslevan in the eastern part of Ennis. The parish is an amalgamation of the medieval parishes of Doora, Kilraghtis and Templemaley. Current (2022) co-parish priest is Martin Blake. Churches There are three churches in the parish. The main church is the St. Breckans Church in Doora (village), Doora. This cruciform church is built in 1836. The second church of the parish is the Church of Immaculate Conception in Barefield. This rectangular church is built in 1874, replacing a thatched building nearby. The third and newest church of the parish is Our Lady's Church in Roslevan. Doora Church ( ga, Teampull Dúrain), also known as St Brecan, Doora, is a ruined church in the civil parish of Doora, County Clare, Ireland. It may date back to 500 AD, although it has been extensively reworked since then. History The church may have been founded by Saint Brecan around 500 AD. If Brecan was the founder, as tradition states, it would have been one of the first central mission churches in Clare. It is mentioned in 1189. At this time the church, which is near Kilbrecan, was called Durinierekin. Brecan also founded what is now called Carntemple about to the east of Doora Church. An 1842 map notes that the church was in ruins and shows it about southwest of what was then the hamlet of Doora, which lay in the west of the townland of Ballaghboy in the parish of Doora.
