Donvale Football Club
The Donvale Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in Donvale, Victoria. They presently play in Division 3 of the Eastern Football League. History The club was founded in 1971 as Donvale United and played in the Eastern Suburban Churches Football Association in the A Grade competition. All clubs had to be aligned to a church. Donvale won their first match on April 17, 1971, defeating Highfield Road by 59 points. They went on make the Grand Final, only to be defeated by Box Hill Pioneers in their first season. But they picked up their first premiership the next year avenging the 1971 loss - thanks to strong tackling, stamina and enthusiasm under the guidance of John Henderson, winning by 48 points. They repeated the performance against the same club in 1973 winning by 30 points thanks partly to inaccuracy by Pioneers. Eastern Football League (Australia)
The Eastern Football Netball League (known previously as the Eastern Districts Football League and later the Eastern Football League) is an Australian rules football league, based in the eastern suburbs of metropolitan Melbourne. History The Eastern Districts Football League was established on 15 February 1962, but its origins can be traced back to the Reporter District Football League established in 1903. From 1927 until World War 2, the league was known as the Ringwood District Football League. It was known as the Croydon District Football League and the Croydon Mail Football League between World War 2 and 1949. In 1950 the league became known as the Croydon-Ferntree Gully League. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Donvale, Victoria
Donvale is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Manningham local government area. It is a leafy and peaceful suburb, with the side west of Springvale Road is described as an extension of the nearby Doncaster East. The side east of Springvale Rd is an area full of low density housing and huge amounts of bushland, especially south of Donvale Christian College. There is little public transportation in Donvale, relying on an old bus service. There are basically no shops in Donvale, so residents go to Tunstall Square in Doncaster East or The Pines instead. Nearby Park Orchards and Warrandyte are known for their bike trails. There are lots of schools, including a special high school in the south of the suburb. The south side of Donvale is heavily influenced by Nunawading and Mitcham. There are very little apartments east of Springvale & Mitcham Roads. John Henderson (Australian Rules Footballer)
John Henderson (born 31 August 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the VFL. Henderson played mostly as a centreman but was originally a half back. He was a premiership player with Collingwood in 1958 and a Victorian interstate representative. Although he never won a best and fairest he was Collingwood's top vote getter in the 1963 Brownlow Medal count, finishing 4th in the league. He was appointed captain of Collingwood for the 1965 season. After playing in the 1966 VFL Grand Final, which they lost to St Kilda by a point, Henderson left Collingwood and joined Yarraville in the VFA as coach. In 1972, Henderson coached local team Donvale United to a premiership in the ESCFA. Colin Tully
Colin Alexander Tully (20 May 1945 – 25 September 2020) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the VFL during the late 1960s. Although small in stature, Tully was a long kick of the ball. For example, he goaled with an estimated 70-75 yards drop kick from the centre of the MCG, against Richmond in 1966. He played his early football at Collingwood as a centreman before developing into a defender and was a member of two losing VFL Grand Finals. He was a Victorian interstate representative in 1967. Tully continued his playing career in the WANFL with Claremont and represented the state at the 1972 Perth Carnival. Caulfield Bears
The Caulfield Bears Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Victoria, Australia. The club has competed in the Southern Football League (current " Southern Football Netball League") from 1993 to present day. This club was formed in 1993 after the merging of two clubs, St. Kevins Ormond F.C. and St Andrews Gardenvale F.C. rival clubs from the Eastern Suburban Churches Football Association (ESCFA). The Bears have no links to the former club that played in the Victorian Football Association until the 1980s. They were initially based in the Melbourne suburb of Caulfield and wore a blue and white guernsey but now call Koornang Park in Carnegie home. The Vermont Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in Vermont, Victoria. They play in Premier Division of the Eastern Football League. The captain is Connor McCafferty. They are coached by Adam Parker. The jumper is purple with a gold eagle on the front with the wings. With purple shorts at home and white shorts away with a clash jumper which is golden with a purple eagle on the front. History Early years Vermont were formed in late 1919 and played their first season in 1920 in the Reporter District FL defeating Warrandyte in their first game.
