Donnybrook is a town situated between Boyanup, Western Australia, Boyanup and Kirup, Western Australia, Kirup on the South Western Highway, south of Perth, Western Australia. The town is the centre of apple cultivation in Western Australia. The town is also known for its picturesque abundance of English Oak trees, as well as for the Apple Fun Park, a large outdoor playground in the centre of town. History Donnybrook is on the traditional lands of the Noongar people. George Nash and other Europeans arrived here around 1842. They named the place after their home town, Donnybrook, Dublin, Donnybrook, then a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. The eastern part of the town was formerly called Minninup. Donnybrook () is a district of Dublin, Ireland. It is situated on the southside of the city, in the Dublin 4 postal district, and is home to the Irish public service broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). It was once part of the Pembroke Township. Its neighbouring suburbs are Ballsbridge, Sandymount, Ranelagh and Clonskeagh. Geography Donnybrook is north of Brisbane, the state capital. The closest major population centre is Caboolture, to the west. The town of Donnybrook is on the coast of the Australian mainland but is separated by the narrow Pumicestone Passage from Bribie Island. History The town name was approved by the Queensland Place Names Board on 1 October 1975. The name appears to be derived from a corroboree site, or because of fights amongst oyster gatherers at weekend camps. The stadium has a capacity of 6,000, including a 2,500 seat covered grandstand which was completed in early 2008. History The stadium, also sometimes known as Donnybrook Rugby Ground, is located on the former fair green used for the Donnybrook Fair until the mid-1850s. Donnybrook Fair was a fair that was held in Donnybrook, Dublin, from the 13th century until the 1850s. It has given its name to an Irish jig, a chain of food stores, a broadsheet ballad, and is a slang term for a brawl or riot. History In the year 1204 King John of England granted a licence to the Dublin Corporation, corporation of Dublin to hold an annual eight-day fair in Donnybrook. In 1252 the duration was extended to fifteen days. Over the years the terms of holding the fair changed slightly, until in the 18th century it was held on 26 August on Donnybrook Green for a fortnight (14 days). By the beginning of the 19th century the fair had become more a site of public entertainment and drinking than a fair proper, and many attempts were made to have it abolished. Donnybrook is a historic unincorporated community in Jefferson County, Oregon, United States. Donnybrook is located about 20 miles south of Antelope, and 10 miles east of Ashwood. The area was first known as "Axehandle", and later as "Kilts". History Axehandle was located at . It was about a quarter mile south of Donnybrook. The locale of Axehandle was named for Axehandle Spring, which was given its name in the late 19th century by some wood haulers from Antelope who found a broken axehandle near a watering hole while working to bring wood from the Blue Mountains. Douglas () is a suburb, with a village core, in Cork city, Ireland. Douglas is also the name of the townland, Roman Catholic parish, Church of Ireland parish and civil parish in which it is contained. Donnybrook Cemetery () is located close to the River Dodder in Donnybrook, Dublin, Ireland. The cemetery was the location of an old Celtic church founded by Saint Broc and later a church dedicated to St. Mary. The site has been in use between 800 and 1880 with the exception of some burial rights. History The site was once the location of an old Celtic church founded by Saint Broc which lends its name to Donnybrook ( ga, Domhnach Broc). Later the church of St. Mary was dedicated by the Archbishop of Dublin, Archbishop John Comyn sometime between 1181 and 1212. The church was rebuilt by Archbishop William King in 1720 and by 1827, due to the size of the congregation, a replacement church was built on the corner of Anglesa Road and Simmonscourt Road and dedicated to St. Mary in 1830.
