Donnie MacLeod
Donald Gardner "Donnie" MacLeod (September 10, 1938 – June 22, 2015) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Cape Breton East in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1980 to 1988. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Born in 1938 at Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, MacLeod was first elected in a byelection on December 2, 1980. MacLeod was re-elected in the 1981, and 1984 elections. Glace Bay
Glace Bay (Scottish Gaelic: ''Glasbaidh'') is a community in the eastern part of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia, Canada. It forms part of the general area referred to as Industrial Cape Breton. Formerly an incorporated town (1901–1995), the municipal government in Glace Bay was dissolved and the community was amalgamated into the larger regional municipality. Prior to amalgamation, Glace Bay had been the province's fourth largest urban area and the largest town in Nova Scotia by population. Glace Bay (electoral District)
Glace Bay-Dominion is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The Member of the Legislative Assembly since 2021 is John White of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. It was created in 1933 when the district of Cape Breton was divided into five electoral districts, one of which was named Cape Breton East. In 2001, the district name was changed to Glace Bay. In 2003, the district lost a small area at its southern tip to Cape Breton West. Jeremy Akerman
Jeremy Bernard Akerman (born May 28, 1942) is a former Canadian politician, writer and actor and a former leader of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party. __TOC__ Early life Akerman was born in Alvechurch, Worcesteshire, United Kingdom. He was attracted to politics in his teens, being drawn to the Labour Party by the famous miners' leader Anuerin Bevan. He attended Marshfield Primary School in Castelton, Bassaleg Grammar School and Cardiff College of Art, all in South Wales where he studied painting, drawing and sculpture. While he was in high school and college, Akerman became very active in archaeology, having participated in a dozen excavations in different parts of the principality. In 1964 Akerman was invited by the Canadian government to take the position of head of Archaeological Illustration at the Fortress of Louisbourg Restoration Project in Nova Scotia. John MacEachern
John Duncan MacEachern (born November 8, 1946) is a former educator and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Cape Breton East in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1988 to 1998 as a Liberal member. He was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia in 1946 and was educated at St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University. MacEachern was a math and physics teacher and high school vice-principal. MacEachern entered provincial politics in the 1988 election, defeating Progressive Conservative Bruce Clark by 1,725 votes in the Cape Breton East riding. He was re-elected in the 1993 election by almost 6,000 votes. On June 11, 1993, MacEachern was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Education and Culture.
