Donna Zakowska
Donna Zakowska (born 1954) is an American costume designer. According to AMC, "Donna Zakowska has designed for film, theatre, circus, opera, music and puppet theatre, including nine seasons for the Big Apple Circus and a concert tour for Mick Jagger." Her costume designs for the John Adams won an Emmy Award in 2009. Zakowska's costumes for '' The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'' won an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Period Costumes" in 2019. Life and early career Donna Zakowska was born in Brooklyn in 1954. She attended Barnard College, the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and the Yale School of Drama. Regarding her early career, Zakowska said "I began designing the Big Apple Circus and working as an assistant on Woody Allen films." A costume designer is a person who designs costumes for a film, stage production or television show. The Costume Designers Guild, Local 892, is a union of professional costume designers, assistant costume designers, and illustrators working in film, television, commercials and other media. The CDG is not an employment agency, it is a labor union. As a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the CDG protects member’s wages and working conditions through collective bargaining. There are many additional benefits to being a member, among them health insurance and a pension, as well as being a part of a vibrant community of over 1200 members, as of July 2021, who shape future policy through participation, share ideas, and support each other. ''Washington's Spies: The Story of America's First Spy Ring'' (2006) is a history book by Alexander Rose, based on the stories of four real-life childhood friends who formed the Culper spy ring that affected the course of the Revolutionary War. Big Apple Circus
The Big Apple Circus is a circus based in New York City. Opened in 1977, later becoming a nonprofit organization, it became a tourist attraction. The circus has been known for its community outreach programs, including Clown Care, as well as its humane treatment of animals. Big Apple Circus filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2016 and exited bankruptcy in February 2017 after its assets were bought by Compass Partners.
