''Donkioporia'' is a genus of fungi in the family Fomitopsidaceae. The genus consists of two resupinate (crust-like) species: the type '' Donkioporia expansa'', and '' D. albidofusca'' (formerly '' Poria albidofusca''), which was transferred to the genus in 2010. The genus name of ''Donkioporia'' is in honour of Marinus Anton Donk (1908–1972), who was a Dutch mycologist. He specialized in the taxonomy and nomenclature of mushrooms. Marinus Anton Donk
Marinus Anton Donk (14 August 1908 – 2 September 1972) was a Dutch mycologist. He specialized in the taxonomy and nomenclature of mushrooms. Rolf Singer wrote in his obituary that he was "one of the most outstanding figures of contemporary mycology." Early life Donk was born in Situbondo, East Java in 1908, and completed secondary school in The Hague, Netherlands. He studied biology at the University of Utrecht, starting in 1927. As a graduate student in mycology he completed the work for his 1931 "Revisie van de Nederlandse Heterobasidiomyceteae" (Revision of the Dutch Heterobasidiomycetes). He completed his studies and attained a doctorate degree in 1933 with the second part of his work, ''Revisie van de Nederlandse Heterobasidiomyceteae II''. Afterwards he returned to Java, where he worked from 1934 to 1940 as a teacher, and, starting from 1941 as a curator in the herbarium of the Buitenzorg Botanical Garden. Resupination
Resupination is derived from the Latin word ''resupinus'', meaning "bent back with the face upward" or "on the back". "Resupination" is the noun form of the adjective "resupine" which means "being upside-down, supine or facing upward". The word "resupinate" is generally only used in a botanical context – in everyday language, "supine" has a similar meaning. František Kotlaba
František Kotlaba (20 May 1927 in Vlastiboř – 11 June 2020 in Prague) was a Czech botanist and mycologist. Scientific career After his degree in Natural Sciences and Pedagogy at the Charles University in Prague, Kotlaba received a post at the National Museum in Prague in 1957. From 1962 to 1990 he was a scientific employee of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic at Průhonice. Kotlaba was for a long time in the editorial staff of the journal ''Mykologické listy'' and was the author of several books, some of a popular scientific nature. Honours '' Kotlabaea'' which is a genus of fungi in the family Pyronemataceae was published by Mirko Svrček in 1969, was named in his honour. Circumscription (taxonomy)
In biological taxonomy, circumscription is the content of a taxon, that is, the delimitation of which subordinate taxa are parts of that taxon. If we determine that species X, Y, and Z belong in Genus A, and species T, U, V, and W belong in Genus B, those are our circumscriptions of those two genera. Another systematist might determine that T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z all belong in genus A. Agreement on circumscriptions is not governed by the Codes of Zoological or Botanical Nomenclature, and must be reached by scientific consensus. A goal of biological taxonomy is to achieve a stable circumscription for every taxon. This goal conflicts, at times, with the goal of achieving a natural classification that reflects the evolutionary history of divergence of groups of organisms. Poria (fungus)
''Perenniporia'' is a cosmopolitan genus of bracket-forming or crust-like polypores in the family Polyporaceae. They are dimitic or trimitic with smooth, thick-walled basidiospores and cause a white rot in affected wood. Taxonomy ''Perenniporia'' was proposed by American mycologist William Alphonso Murrill in 1943 to contain two species formerly placed in ''Poria'', a genus formerly used to contain all crust-like poroid fungi. His description of the genus was: "Hymenophore become perennial, riding; context white or yellow; tubes pinkish, white or yellow, stratose in older specimens; spores hyaline."
