Donetsk Railway Station
Donetsk Railway station is a railway station in Donetsk, Ukraine. It lies between Rutchenkove railway station to the south, and a junction towards Avdiivka on the northwest and Yasynuvata on the northeast, via Donetsk-Pivnichnyi railway station. History In World War II the station building was completely destroyed. In 1951, the architect Vorontsov designed a new station, with a central hub and spurs. The lobby in the centre is key to its design. The station square was built in the 1960s. The station houses a museum of the history of the Donetsk Railway, opened on 4 August 2000, on its 130th anniversary. Outside there is a statue to St. Nicholas, consecrated by the Russian Orthodox Church in late 2011. To accommodate the European Football Championship 2012 the station building was reconstructed and expanded, in a more modern style. Donetsk Railway
The Donets Railway ( uk, Донецька залізниця) is a railway in Donbas, Eastern Ukraine. It is one of six rail systems owned and operated by Ukrainian Railways. It is part-owned by the Ukrainian government, but Russia also has claimed it since the 2014 Russian military intervention in Ukraine. Because of that, only part of the Donetsk Railway is operational. In December 2014, a regional branch of Ukrzaliznytsia Donetsk Railway was created and the headquarters was moved from Donetsk to Lyman. Luhansk
Luhansk (, ; uk, Луганськ, ), also known as Lugansk (, ; russian: Луганск, ), is a city in what is internationally recognised as Ukraine, although it is administered by Russia as capital of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR). As of 2021, the population was estimated to be 399,559, making Luhansk the most populous city in the region and the 12th largest in Ukraine. In 2001, nearly half of the population was ethnically Ukrainian, and 47% was ethnically Russian. Olenivka ( uk, Оленівка; russian: link=no, Оленовка) is an urban-type settlement in Kalmiuske Raion, Donetsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine, 20.5 km southwest from the center of the city of Donetsk. The War in Donbas, russian: Война на Донбассе was an armed conflict in the Donbas region of Ukraine, part of the broader Russo-Ukrainian War. In March 2014, immediately following the Euromaidan protest movement and subsequent Revolution of Dignity, protests by pro-Russian, anti-government separatist groups arose in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine, collectively called the Donbas. These demonstrations began around the same time as Russia's annexation of Crimea, and were part of wider pro-Russian protests across southern and eastern Ukraine.
