Donald R. Bensen
Donald Roynald Bensen (October 3, 1927 – October 19, 1997), known also as Don Bensen and listed sometimes as D.R. Bensen, was an American editor and science fiction writer. As an editor he is known best for editing works of P. G. Wodehouse and his involvement with their re-issue as paperbacks in the United States. As an author, he is known best for his 1978 humorous alternate history novel, '' And Having Writ...'', published first by Bobbs-Merrill company. Life He died at the age of 70 at his home in Croton-on-Hudson, New York on October 19, 1997. Career Bensen's literary career began as a literary agent for Scott Meredith company. He was appointed editor of Pyramid Publications during 1957, and was eventually, if not immediately, editor-in-chief there. Later he was a senior editor for Ballantine Books and afterwards the Berkley Publishing Corporation of New York. ''The Unknown Five'' is an anthology of American fantasy fiction short stories edited by D. R. Bensen and illustrated by Edd Cartier, the fourth of a number of anthologies drawing their contents from the American magazine ''Unknown'' of the 1930s-1940s. It was first published in paperback by Pyramid Books in January 1964. The cover title of this first edition was ''The Unknown 5''; the numeral was spelled out on the title page and copyright statement. The book was reprinted by Jove/HBJ in October 1978. It has also been translated into German. It was a follow-up to a companion anthology, '' The Unknown'', issued in 1963. The book collects five tales by various authors, together with an introduction by the editor. Mystery Writers Of America
Mystery Writers of America (MWA) is an organization of mystery and crime writers, based in New York City. The organization was founded in 1945 by Clayton Rawson, Anthony Boucher, Lawrence Treat, and Brett Halliday. It presents the Edgar Award, a small bust of Edgar Allan Poe, to mystery or crime writers every year. It presents the Raven Award to non-writers, who contribute to the mystery genre.
