Donald Murray (judge)
Sir Donald Bruce Murray PC (24 January 1923 – 20 February 2018) was a Lord Justice of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Northern Ireland. Education Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he was educated at Belfast Royal Academy and the Queen's University, Belfast as well as Trinity College Dublin. He died in Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast on 20 February 2018. Career Murray was Called to the Bar at Gray's Inn in 1945, the same year he became assistant parliamentary draftsman to the Government of Northern Ireland, a post he held until becoming assistant lecturer in Law at Queen's University in 1951. In 1953, Murray was called to the Northern Ireland Bar, and twelve years later he was admitted to the province's Inner Bar, becoming a bencher of the Inn of Court in 1971. Between 1972 and 1975 he chaired the General Council of the Bar of Northern Ireland, and from 1976 to 1984 he was deputy chairman of the country's Boundary Commission. He wrote for many journals, authored several books on the art of writing and teaching, and served as writing coach for several national newspapers. After writing multiple editorials about changes in American military policy for the ''Boston Herald'', he won the 1954 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing. For 20 years, he wrote the ''Boston Globe''s "Over 60" column, eventually renamed "Now And Then". He taught at the University of New Hampshire for 26 years. Donald Gaines Murray (May 24, 1914 – April 7, 1986 in Baltimore, Maryland) was an American attorney, the first African-American to enter the University of Maryland School of Law since 1890 as a result of winning the landmark civil rights case ''Murray v. Pearson'' in 1935. Early life and education Murray was born on May 24, 1914 in Philadelphia, the son of George Lee Murray and Cecilia Lillian Gaines Murray. He graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1929. Murray then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College in 1934. ''Murray v. Donald Walter Gordon Murray, (May 29, 1894 – January 7, 1976), also known as "Gordon Murray", was a Canadian cardiac surgeon. Born in Ontario, he enrolled at the University of Toronto to study medicine in 1914. During World War I, he enlisted as an artilleryman and rose to the rank of sergeant. After the war, he graduated in 1921. In 1927, he started work at the Toronto General Hospital. He is known for performing the first homograft implant into the descending thoracic aorta to treat aortic regurgitation.
