Donald Mercer Cormie
Donald Mercer Cormie (July 24, 1922 – February 20, 2010) was an American-born Canadian lawyer, financier and founder of the Principal Group. History Donald Cormie was a United States Merchant Marine from 1943 to 1944 before receiving his Master of Laws, LLM from Harvard Law School in 1946. With Jack W. Kennedy, Cormie co-founded the law firm Cormie Kennedy (1954-1987) in Edmonton, Alberta, and had a prestigious legal career. Cormie was the president and founder of one of Canada's largest Investment company, investment firms, which became known as the Principal Group. The main companies associated with the Principal Group were First Investors Corporation, Associated Investors of Canada and Principal Savings and Trust Corporation. The associated corporations within the Principal Group grew to more than $1 billion of assets. The corporations were closed by regulators in 1987 and subsequently liquidated. ''Canadian Business'' is the longest-publishing business magazine based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and founded in 1927. The print edition terminated in the end of 2016. Beginning in January 2017, the magazine was published online only. In October 2021, ''Canadian Business'' relaunched its print edition as a quarterly magazine. The Maine-Anjou is a French breed of domestic cattle, raised mainly in the Pays de la Loire region in north-western France. It was created in the nineteenth century in the historic province of Maine by cross-breeding the local Mancelle dairy cattle with Durham stock from Britain, and was at first called the Durham-Mancelle. In France it has been known since 2004 as the , but the Maine-Anjou name continues to be used elsewhere. It was formerly a dual-purpose animal, raised both for meat and for milk, but is now principally a beef breed. History The Maine-Anjou breed was created in the nineteenth century by owners of large estates in the traditional province of Maine, who cross-bred the local Mancelle dairy cattle with British Durham cattle – the breed that would later become the Shorthorn. The Simmental or Swiss Fleckvieh is a Swiss breed of dual-purpose cattle. It is named after the Simmental – the valley of the Simme river – in the Bernese Oberland, in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is reddish in colour with white markings, and is raised for both milk and meat. Tomahawk, Alberta is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Parkland County. It is located on Highway 759, northeast of the Town of Drayton Valley. Brian Anthony Brennan (born October 4, 1943) is an Irish-Canadian author and historian who specializes in books about the colourful personalities of Western Canada's past. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he migrated to Canada in 1966 and has lived in Calgary, Alberta, since 1974. He spent 25 years as a staff writer with the ''Calgary Herald'' writing columns and feature stories. Brennan was part of an attempt by the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada to organize a union local for the newsroom and negotiate a first contract with the ''Calgary Herald''. Before and during the eight-month strike by journalists in 1999 and 2000, Brennan was a member of the union's bargaining committee.
