Donald Mackinnon
Donald Mackinnon (29 September 1859 – 25 April 1932) was an Australian politician. Early life Born at Marida Yallock near Boorcan in Victoria to grazier David Mackinnon and Jane Kinross, both Scottish-born, he was educated at Geelong Grammar School, Melbourne University and New College, Oxford, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts. In 1883 he was called to the English Bar, returning to Victoria to repeat the achievement in 1884. At his father's death in 1889 he took over the family property, and also acquired grazing property in New South Wales and Queensland. On 19 August 1891 he married Hilda Eleanor Marie Bunny, sister of the artist Rupert Bunny; they had five children. Politics In 1900 Mackinnon was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Liberal member for Prahran, serving as party leader from 1904 to 1907. Dan Mackinnon
Ewen Daniel Mackinnon (11 February 1903 – 7 June 1983) was an Australian politician. The son of state MLA Donald Mackinnon, he was born in Melbourne and educated at Geelong Grammar School and then attended Oxford University. He returned to Australia as a grazier at Linton before becoming a company director and serving in the military 1938–43. In 1949, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal for Wannon, but he was defeated in 1951. In 1953 he returned to the House as the member for Corangamite, having been elected in the by-election that followed the death of Allan McDonald. In 1966, Mackinnon retired from politics and was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Harry Lawson (politician)
Sir Harry Sutherland Wightman Lawson KCMG (5 March 1875 – 12 June 1952), was an Australian politician who served as Premier of Victoria from 1918 to 1924. He later entered federal politics, serving as a Senator for Victoria from 1929 to 1935, and was briefly a minister in the Lyons Government. He was a member of the Nationalist Party until 1931, when it was subsumed into the United Australia Party. Early life Lawson was born in Dunolly, the son of a Presbyterian clergyman of Scottish descent. He was educated at a local school and then, briefly, at Scotch College in Melbourne. He was a noted Australian rules footballer, playing for Castlemaine. He studied law with a Melbourne law firm and was called to the bar. William Evans (Australian Politician)
William John Evans (18 April 1856 – 22 August 1914) was an Australian union leader and politician. Evans was born in Ballarat, Victoria, the son of John Evans, a railway time-keeper, and Harriet Denman, both born in England. He joined Victorian Railways initially as a carriage-cleaner, later worked as fireman and engine-driver. He was secretary to the Locomotive Engineers Association. Evans was the only person to the short-lived Public and Railway Officers Province of the Victorian Legislative Council which was created for the June 1904 election and abolished for the following election. At the June 1907 election he successfully stood for the Melbourne North Province. Evans was appointed Attorney-General, Solicitor-General and Minister of Public Health in the Labor government of George Elmslie on 9 December 1913 following a split in the Liberal Party, however the government lasted only until 22 December 1913. Alexander Parker (politician)
Alexander Frederick Parker (born 8 November 1891, date of death unknown) was an Australian politician. He was born in South Melbourne to labourer William Parker and Mary Ann McCallum. He was a law clerk before serving in the Australian Imperial Force during World War I; he was wounded at Ypres. He held various business interests after the war, and on 15 December 1920 married Frances Alma Narracott, with whom he had one son. In 1920 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Prahran; he had previously contested Barwon in 1914 and the English constituency of Kingswinford Kingswinford is a town of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley in the English West Midlands, situated west-southwest of central Dudley. James MacKinnon (cricketer)
James Curdie MacKinnon (10 January 1865 – 4 July 1957) was an Australian first-class cricketer. McKinnon was born at Terang, Victoria to Daniel Mackinnon, a member of a well known pioneering pastoral family. He was educated at Geelong Grammar School, before going to England to study at Trinity Hall at the University of Cambridge. While studying at Cambridge he made his debut in first-class cricket for the Gentlemen of England against Cambridge University at Fenner's in 1886. He made his debut for Cambridge University in the same season against Yorkshire at Sheffield, with MacKinnon playing one further match for Cambridge in 1886, followed by two matches in 1887. In five first-class appearances, he scored 31 runs and took 4 wickets. After graduating he returned to Australia and joined the firm Strachan, Murray, and Shannon at Geelong.
