Donald E. Gettings (November 21, 1923 – June 13, 2011) was an American politician from the state of Iowa. Education and career Gettings was born in Wapello County, Iowa Wapello County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 35,437. The county seat is Ottumwa. The county was formed on February 17, 1843, and named for Wapello, a Meskwaki chief. Wapello County ... in 1923 and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1942. He served as a Democrat in both the Iowa House of Representatives from 1977 to 1983, and in the Iowa Senate from 1983 to 1999. Death Gettings died in Ottumwa in 2011. The Iowa Senate is the upper house of the Iowa General Assembly, United States. There are 50 seats in the Iowa Senate, representing 50 single-member districts across the state of Iowa with populations of approximately 60,927 per constituency, . Each Senate district is composed of two House districts. The Senate meets at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Unlike the lower house, the Iowa House of Representatives, Senators serve four-year terms, with no term limits. Terms are staggered so that half the Senate is up for reelection every two years.
