Donald Abel
Donald "Don" Clarke Abel (born February 4, 1952) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was elected as an Ontario New Democratic Party Member of Provincial Parliament (Ontario), MPP to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario representing the riding of Wentworth North (provincial electoral district), Wentworth North from 1990 to 1995. Background Abel studied economics, industrial sociology, political science, labour history and labour law at the Labour College of Canada in Ottawa. He worked in the purchasing and plant management department of the Wentworth County Board of Education and served 10 years as Local 1572 president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). He also served as a National Service Representative for CUPE prior to his election to the provincial legislature. 1995 Ontario General Election
The 1995 Ontario general election was held on June 8, 1995, to elect members of the 36th Legislative Assembly of the province of Ontario, Canada. The writs for the election were dropped on April 28, 1995. The governing New Democratic Party, led by Premier Bob Rae, was defeated by voters, who were angry with the actions of the Rae government, such as its unpopular hiring quotas and the Social Contract legislation in 1993. These policies caused the NDP to lose much of its base in organized labour, further reducing support for the party. At the 1993 federal election, the NDP tumbled to less than seven percent support, and lost all 11 of its federal seats in Ontario. Rick Johnson is a Canadian former politician and musician. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2009 to 2011 who represented the riding of Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock. Lindsay, Ontario
Lindsay is a community of 22 367 people (2021 Canadian Census, 2021 census) on the Scugog River in the Kawartha Lakes (Ontario), Kawartha Lakes region of south-eastern Ontario, Canada. It is approximately west of Peterborough, Ontario, Peterborough. It is the seat of the Kawartha Lakes, City of Kawartha Lakes (formerly Victoria County, Ontario, Victoria County), and the hub for business and commerce in the region. History The Township of Ops was surveyed in 1825 by Colonel Duncan McDonell, and Lots 20 and 21 in the 5th Concession were reserved for a town site. The same year settlers began to come to the region, and by 1827, the Purdys, an American family, built a dam on the Scugog River at the site of present-day Lindsay. The following year they built a sawmill, and in 1830, a grist mill was constructed. A small village grew up around the mills, and it was known as Purdy's Mills. Sturgeon Lake (Ontario)
Sturgeon Lake is a lake in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Trent-Severn Waterway. The lake is Y shaped and has the communities of Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, Sturgeon Point and Bobcaygeon at the north-west, south, central and north-east points of the Y respectively. The lake is approximately from the southern to the north-eastern extremes, the longer axis. Inflow and Outflow The Scugog River flows into the lake at the southern apex. Cameron Lake also flows into this lake, via the Fenelon River at the north-western extreme. Emily Creek empties into the lake at the middle south. The lake outflow is through the Big Bob and Little Bob channels of the Bobcaygeon River at the north-east of the lake. Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock (formerly Haliburton—Victoria—Brock) is a provincial electoral district in Central Ontario, Canada. It elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. It was created in 1999 from parts of Victoria—Haliburton, Durham East, Durham—York and Hastings—Peterborough. When the riding was created it was called Haliburton—Victoria—Brock, and included all of Victoria County, most of Haliburton County, the townships of Brock, Galway-Cavendish and Harvey, Burleigh and Anstruther, Chandos and Cavan, as well as the village of Millbrook. In 2007 it was renamed Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock after Victoria County was renamed Kawartha Lakes.
