Donald Woods (1933–2001) was a South African journalist and activist. Donald Woods
Donald James Woods (15 December 1933 – 19 August 2001) was a South African journalist and Internal resistance to apartheid, anti-apartheid activist. As editor of the ''Daily Dispatch'', he was known for befriending fellow activist Steve Biko, who was killed by police after being detained by the South African government. Woods continued his campaign against apartheid in London, and in 1978 became the first private citizen to address the United Nations Security Council. Early life Woods was born at Hobeni, Cape Province, where his family had lived for five generations. His ancestors arrived in South Africa with the 1820 Settlers. Woods was born and raised in what has since become the Eastern Cape province, as were both of his parents, all four of his grandparents, all eight of his great grandparents and all sixteen of his great, great grandparents. Donald Woods (actor)
Donald Woods (born Ralph Lewis Zink; December 2, 1906 – March 5, 1998) was a Canadian-American film and television actor whose career in Hollywood spanned six decades. Life and career Woods was born in Brandon, Manitoba, and moved with his family to California, where he was raised in Burbank. His parents were William and Margaret Zink, Presbyterians of German descent. His younger brother, Clarence Russell Zink, also became an actor (Russ Conway). Woods graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and made his film debut in 1928. His screen career was spent mostly in B movies, for example as lawyer Perry Mason in the 1937 film ''The Case of the Stuttering Bishop''. He also played romantic leads in B comedies, notably the popular ''Mexican Spitfire'' series opposite Lupe Velez. Donald Devereux Woods
Donald Devereux Woods (16 February 1912 - 6 November 1964) was a British microbiologist. He was born in Ipswich, the son of Walter and Violet Woods, and educated at Northgate School, Ipswich. He entered Trinity Hall, Cambridge, graduating in 1933 and gaining a PhD there in 1937. In 1939 he joined the Medical Research Council (United Kingdom), Medical Research Council Unit for Bacterial Chemistry, working at the Middlesex Hospital, London. After World War II, during which he had been engaged on secret work, he became reader in Microbiology at Oxford University and in 1955 accepted the new Iveagh Chair of Chemical Microbiology there. Donald R. Woods (born April 30, 1954) is an American hacker and computer programmer. He is best known for his role in the development of the ''Colossal Cave Adventure'' game. Biography Early programming career Woods teamed with James M. Lyon while both were attending Princeton in 1972 to produce the unprecedented, excursive INTERCAL programming language. Later, he worked at the Stanford AI lab (SAIL), where among other things he became the SAIL contact for, and a contributor to, the Jargon File. Donald Ray Woods (born February 17, 1951) is a former National Football League American football running back who played with the San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers from 1974–1980. College career Woods attended New Mexico Highlands University for college before transferring to the University of New Mexico his senior year when New Mexico Highlands dropped their football program. Don Woods (meteorologist)
Donald Kenneth Woods (February 5, 1928 – June 12, 2012) was an American meteorologist and cartoonist. He was the first television weatherman in Oklahoma to hold a degree in meteorology. He started his Oklahoma career in 1954 on KTUL, the ABC affiliate television station originally licensed to Muskogee and to Tulsa after 1957. He used a cartoon character called Gusty during his weather forecasts every night, drawing on-air, with a reference to recent weather as the focus of his simple line-drawn character. Woods used Gusty to demonstrate how to be weather smart during thunderstorm and tornado activity. At various times, Gusty would also be drawn swimming, fishing, water skiing, or playing American football. Gusty was a responsible individual — raking leaves in the fall, mowing the grass in the summer, or sometimes just relaxing with a good book. Donald Paul Wood (March 22, 1933 – July 7, 2015) was a Canadian politician and a businessman and farmer. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada as a Member of the Liberal Party in a 1977 by-election, after the resignation of Tory Angus MacLean on October 20, 1976. During this time, he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Regional Economic Expansion. He lost the 1979 election to Melbourne Gass. He lost the 1968 election to the Hon. Angus MacLean.
