Donald Reid (politician Born 1833)
Donald Reid (16 July 1833 – 7 February 1919) was a Scottish-born 19th-century farmer, landowner, and businessman in Otago, New Zealand. A member of the Otago Provincial Council he was later a Member of Parliament for ten years between 1866 and 1878. Scotland Reid was born in Strathtay in Perthshire, Scotland. He was the third recorded son of Donald Reid and Margaret McGregor. His father died in 1844 and his mother remarried. Reid emigrated to New Zealand sailing from London 2 November 1848, arriving in Port Chalmers 4 April 1849 on the ''Mary'' (533 tons) together with his mother, stepfather, two brothers and elder brother Charles's wife. Donald Reid (1850 – 3 September 1922) was a solicitor, farmer and politician who lived in Milton, Otago New Zealand. Otago Donald Reid was born, probably in Dunedin where he was baptised, the eldest son of the 15 children of Scottish parents, Charles Reid (1828–1897), founder of Standard Insurance and his wife Charlotte Thyne Young (1830–1904). Charles was a brother of Donald Reid, founder of the Dunedin stock and station agency Donald Reid & Co. Educated at Otago Boys' High School he married in 1885 Alicia Charlotte (1862–1933), the eldest daughter of F C Fulton then of Napier formerly of Caversham. She was a cousin of Harry Fulton. Donald Reid (1855 – 25 August 1920) was a Dunedin, New Zealand solicitor and partner in his father's stock and station agency. For two consecutive terms he was an independent conservative Member of Parliament in New Zealand. His father had represented the same electorate for three terms a generation earlier. Donald Bartlett "Don" Reid (30 June 1926 – 11 August 2001) was Mayor of Ottawa, Ontario from 1965 to 1969. Reid was first elected to office in the 1954 municipal election as the alderman for Ward 4. At the time he was the general manager of Reid's Furniture and Appliances, attended Westboro United Church, was a member of the Kinsmen Club, was president of the Junior Board of Trade, and the Ottawa Radio, TV and Appliance Deals Association, and had previously been a director of the Central Canada Exhibition Association. He lived at 224 Bank Street. Reid won a spot on Ottawa's Board of Control in the 1960 municipal election. At the time he was still operating his furniture store, and had also been a director of the Ottawa Winter Fair. He owned a farm in Osgoode, Ontario where he raised Shetland ponies and beef cattle. He specialises in local and social history and has written books on the history of the Garnock Valley and Doon Valley, including the towns of Beith, Barrmill, Dalmellington, Gateside, Kilbirnie, Patna, and Waterside. He has resided in Beith, North Ayrshire since 1986. A strong emphasis in the books is on the people and the social context of their lives. ''Codgers'' is a 2006 stage play by Don Reid that was later turned into a 2011 comedy film of the same name by Wayne Harrison. The play won a 2006 Rodney Seaborn Playwright's Award, and toured nationally in 2010. Reid created a companion play for ''Codgers'' entitled ''Biddies'', which released in 2012. Summary The film follows five elderly men that meet weekly at their local gym to talk and spend time together. When a newcomer threatens their friendships, the group must overcome the temporary setbacks and find a way to overcome these new issues. The Donald Reid Medal is awarded triennially by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in recognition of distinguished contributions to epidemiology. Institution The medal was instituted in 1979 in memory of Professor Donald Reid who was Director of the Department of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine from 1961 until his sudden death in 1977. The medal was created by the distinguished medal sculptor Louis Osman. Joseph Donald Reid Cabral (June 9, 1923 – July 22, 2006) was a Dominican politician and lawyer. Reid became president during the "triumvirate" from December 28, 1963 to April 25, 1965. Donal Reid
Donal Reid ( ; born 1961 or 1962) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for Bundoran, Red Hughs and the Donegal county team. He played more than 100 times competitively for Donegal, appearing at all age levels and positions from midfield to forward to defence. Reid won two All-Ireland titles with his county, and was part of Jim McGuinness's backroom team when they won another in 2012. He also played hurling with the Setanta club.
