Don Morin
Don Albert Morin (born 1954 in Hay River, Northwest Territories) was the seventh premier of the Northwest Territories, Canada. Scandal The initial complaints that led to the investigations by the ethics commissioner were filed with the Northwest Territories ethics commissioner by MLAs Jane Groenewegen and Jeannie Marie-Jewell. While Premier Morin was being investigated he and his lawyers tried to pressure the ethics commissioner into resigning her post. Morin was forced to resign as Premier in 1998 after a scathing report was released over conflict of interest allegations involving the illegal shipment of government owned bison to a friend of the premier in 1996. In addition to those allegations he was also under investigation for having awarded a contract to lease to a Government of Northwest Territories Lahm Ridge Tower building to an associate. Gooteleah "Goo" "Mosa" Arlooktoo (November 28, 1963 – April 30, 2002) was a Canadian politician and former cabinet minister from Northwest Territories, Canada. He briefly served as acting premier of the territory. Political career Arlooktoo was first elected to the Northwest Territories legislature in the 1995 Northwest Territories general election. He won the electoral district of Baffin South. In his first term in office he was appointed to the cabinet becoming Minister of Justice and Housing and Deputy Premier. Arlooktoo became Acting Premier after the sudden resignation of Premier Don Morin who resigned over conflict of interest allegations. He served in this capacity from November 26 until December 10, 1998 when then Legislative Assembly chose Jim Antoine to lead the government. Jeannie Marie-Jewell
Jeannie Marie-Jewell (born October 7, 1961) is a territorial level politician from northern Canada. She served as the first female Speaker in the history of the Northwest Territories legislature. Political career Marie-Jewell was first elected to the Northwest Territories legislature in the 1987 Northwest Territories for the riding of Slave River. She served that district until it was abolished in 1991. She rose to prominence in her first term in office holding a number of cabinet posts. She became Minister of Social Services, Minister of Personnel and Minister Responsible for the Women's Secretariat. She was also the Minister Responsible for the Highway Transport Board and Workers' Compensation Board and Minister for Youth. Jane Mary "Ostler" Groenewegen (born November 8, 1956) is a territorial level politician from northern Canada and a former member of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. Political career Groenewegen was first elected to a seat in the Northwest Territories Legislature in the 1995 Northwest Territories general election. She was returned by acclamation in the 1999 Northwest Territories general election. She was appointed to the cabinet by Premier Stephen Kakfwi and she served as Deputy Premier Minister of Health and Social Services, Minister Responsible for Seniors, Persons with Disabilities and the Status of Women. Groenewegen was elected to a third term in the 2003 Northwest Territories general election. She was not re-appointed to the cabinet and was elected Deputy Speaker.
