Don Kay (politician)
Donald Kay (c. 1920 – April 200 was an alderman on Ottawa City Council for 18 years. Before entering politics, Kay was an administrative officer for the Federal Post Office Department. He was also the chairman of the council of the Community Association of Southeast Ottawa. He was also the first Vice President of the Elmvale Acres- Urbandale Community Association. Later on in his career, he was a regional representative of the Public Service Alliance. Kay, a civil servant, first ran for council in 1960. Running in Gloucester Ward, he placed fourth. In his second attempt, the following election, Kay would be elected, unseating incumbent Pat Doherty for the second elected position in Gloucester Ward. Kay represented Gloucester Ward until 1966, when he was elected in the new Alta Vista Ward. In 1968, he also became a regional councillor in addition to sitting on Ottawa City Council. Public Service Alliance Of Canada
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC; french: Alliance de la Fonction publique du Canada, link=no, AFPC) is one of Canada's largest national labour unions and the largest union in the Canadian federal public sector. PSAC members work in every province and territory, and also work abroad in embassies and consulates. Many of PSAC's some 200,000 members work for the federal public service, crown corporations, or agencies as immigration officers, fisheries officers, food inspectors, customs officers, national defence civilian employees, and the like. However, an increasing number of PSAC members work in non-federal sectors: in women's shelters, universities, security agencies and casinos. Canterbury Ward
Canterbury (, ) is a cathedral city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, situated in the heart of the City of Canterbury local government district of Kent, England. It lies on the River Stour. The Archbishop of Canterbury is the primate of the Church of England and the worldwide Anglican Communion owing to the importance of St Augustine, who served as the apostle to the pagan Kingdom of Kent around the turn of the 7th century. 1980 Ottawa Municipal Election
The city of Ottawa, Canada held municipal elections on November 10, 1980. Mayor Marion Dewar defeated former alderman Pat Nicol in a re-match of the 1978 race. This is the first election in 70 years without the Ottawa Board of Control, as it had been abolished. Council stayed the same size however, as four wards were added. Mayor Marion Dewar swept the city in her re-election, winning all but one ward. Her best results came in the city's urban wards, with her best ward being Capital, where she won 63.4 per cent of the vote. She also topped 60 per cent in By-Rideau, St. George's and Capital wards. Her only loss was in Elmdale, which Nicol won narrowly by 43 votes. Gloucester Ward
Gloucester ( ) is a cathedral city and the county town of Gloucestershire in the South West of England. Gloucester lies on the River Severn, between the Cotswolds to the east and the Forest of Dean to the west, east of Monmouth and east of the border with Wales. Urbandale, Ottawa
Urbandale (also known as Canterbury) is a neighbourhood in Alta Vista Ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The neighbourhood is roughly located south of Pleasant Park Road, west of St. Laurent Boulevard, north of Walkley Road and east of the Kilborn Allotment Garden. The total population for this area was 4,622 according to the Canada 2016 Census. The neighbourhood was built in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and was first named Urbandale Acres and was built by Economy Home Builders Ltd. Today, the name "Urbandale Acres" usually refers to an adjacent subdivision. The Canterbury Square apartment complex would begin being built in 1964, while the Lord Halifax Place apartments would be built by the end of the decade. Elmvale Acres
Elmvale Acres is a neighbourhood in south Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, located in Alta Vista Ward. It was built in the late 1950s by the contractor and property developer, Robert Campeau, with construction beginning in 1955. It is bounded on the north by Smyth Road, on the east by Othello Avenue, on the south by Pleasant Park Road and on the west by the Hydro Corridor. According to the 2016 Census, the population for this area was 2,627. The neighbourhood is represented by the Elmvale Acres Community Association, which was known as the Elmvale Acres Property Owners Association prior to 1959, and was known as the Elmvale-Urbandale Community Association when it covered neighbouring Urbandale in the 1960s and 1970s.
