Don Carter (bowler)
Donald James Carter (July 29, 1926 – January 5, 2012) was a right-handed American professional bowler. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he learned the game while working a childhood job as a pinsetter, and went on to become one of the legends of ten-pin bowling and a founding member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) in 1958. He was six-time bowler of the year, a 10-time All-American, and became known simply as "Mr. Bowling." Carter and fellow St. Louis native Dick Weber are widely regarded as professional bowling's first superstars. He was voted the Greatest Bowler of All-Time in a 1970 ''Bowling Magazine'' poll, and ranked #1 among 20th Century bowlers by ''Bowlers Journal'' in 1999. Donald J. Carter (July 5, 1933 – February 14, 2018) was an American investor and businessman who was a founding owner of the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Dallas Sidekicks of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).Aron (2003), p. 4–6. Donald Frederick Carter (11 September 1921 – 2002) was an English professional footballer who scored 46 goals from 163 appearances in the Football League playing as an outside left or inside forward for Bury, Blackburn Rovers and New Brighton. Life and career Carter was born in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, in 1921. He played non-league football for Norton St John's before joining Birmingham League club Stourbridge early in the 1938–39 season. Playing at outside left, he soon attracted attention from bigger clubs, and in January 1939 signed for Bury of the Football League Second Division. He did not make his senior debut for the club until after the Second World War, and scored 27 goals from 56 matches over two seasons. The goals included a hat-trick in a 6–3 win against Bradford Park Avenue in 1947.
