From 1976 until 2010, the Spanish sports magazine ''Don Balón'' conferred the Don Balón Award (''Premio Don Balón'') to the best Spanish player, the best foreign player, the best referee and the breakthrough player in La Liga. ''Don Balón'' is a Spanish weekly sports magazine specializing in Spanish and international football. The magazine was published in Barcelona between 1975 and 2011. It was distributed on five continents. Since 2011 ''Don Balón'' has been a fully digital media outlet. It is still considered one of the most influential football media outlets in the Spanish speaking world. History and profile The magazine was founded in 1975 by José María Casanovas, a very well known Spanish sport journalist, who had the idea of creating an internationally recognized sport magazine. In the same year he also founded the daily sport newspaper ''Sport'', which focuses on FC Barcelona. ''Don Balón'' had its headquarters in Barcelona. Rafael Gordillo
Rafael Gordillo Vázquez (born 24 February 1957) is a Spanish retired footballer. A tremendously attacking left wing-back, equally at ease as defender and midfielder and with a good effort rate, he had an unmistakable style of playing with his socks down. He represented mainly Betis and Real Madrid during his career, appearing in 428 La Liga games and scoring 38 goals over 16 seasons. He won ten major titles with the latter club, including five national championships. Javier Clemente
Javier Clemente Lázaro (; born 12 March 1950) is a Spanish football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. Forced to retire from playing in his early 20s through injury, he embarked on a coaching career with his first managerial appointment coming in 1975. Over the next four decades, he took charge of several club and national teams, including Athletic Bilbao which he also represented as a player, as well as Espanyol and Spain. He won the La Liga championship in 1983 and 1984 with the former. Juan Alberto Barbas (born 23 August 1959 in San Martín, Buenos Aires) is a retired Argentine footballer who played as an attacking or defensive midfielder. He played for a number of clubs in Argentina, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland before turning his hand to management in 2009 with Racing Club de Avellaneda. Club career Barbas started his career in 1977 at Racing Club de Avellaneda in the Argentine Primera División. Juan Antonio Señor Gómez (born 26 August 1958 in Madrid) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a central midfielder, and is the manager of Pontevedra CF. During his professional career he played mainly for Zaragoza, amassing nearly 400 official appearances in nine years. Alberto Ormaetxea
Alberto Ormaetxea Ibarlucea (7 April 1939 – 28 October 2005) was a Spanish football defender ( right and left-back) and coach. His career was closely associated to Real Sociedad, as both a player and a manager. He was in charge of the team when they won their only two La Liga titles in the 80s. Playing career Born in Eibar, Gipuzkoa, Ormaetxea started his senior career with local SD Eibar, with whom he was relegated from the Segunda División in 1958. The following year, he was purchased by Real Sociedad, who immediately loaned him to his previous club. Ormaetxea started playing as a right-back, but eventually switched flanks.
