Don Bacon (baseball)
Donald John Bacon (born June 28, 1935 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma United States) is a former minor league baseball player and manager. He led the Midwest League Clinton C-Sox to a league championship in 1963. Education Bacon attended Sapulpa High School and then Oklahoma A&M. During his senior year at Sapulpa High School, he won all-state honors. While at college, he played both baseball and basketball. Playing career Bacon was an infielder, playing from 1955 to 1958 and from 1961 to 1964 in the Chicago White Sox farm system. Despite collecting over 100 hits in a season five times, Bacon never collected more than 24 extra base hits in a single year. Overall, he played in 790 minor league games, collecting 704 hits. He batted .262. Managerial career Bacon's first year as a manager was spent with the C-Sox in 1963, the same year he led them to a league championship. Deerfield Beach/Winter Haven Sun Sox
The Winter Haven Red Sox were a minor league baseball team in the Florida State League (FSL), based in Winter Haven, Florida, from 1969–1992. Team history The franchise began in 1966 in Deerfield Beach, Florida, as the Deerfield Beach Sun Sox, a Class-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. However, on June 27, 1966, the team moved to Winter Haven becoming the Winter Haven Sun Sox. It was the city's first entry in Organized Baseball since the 1919 Bartow Polkers played part of their home schedule in Winter Haven. The Sun Sox were managed by Don Bacon and Bruce Andrew and had a 55–83 record overall. In 1967, the Sun Sox were renamed the Winter Haven Mets after their new parent club, the New York Mets. Midwest League Manager Of The Year Award
The Midwest League Manager of the Year Award is an annual award given to the best manager in Minor League Baseball's Midwest League based on their regular-season performance as voted on by league managers. Broadcasters, Minor League Baseball executives, and members of the media have previously voted as well. The award was created in the league's inaugural 1947 season. The circuit was known as the Illinois State League from 1947 to 1948 and as the Mississippi–Ohio Valley League from 1949 to 1955 before becoming the Midwest League in 1956.
