Don Askarian
Don Askarian ( hy, Դոն Ասկարյան; born Makedon Hovsepi Askarian ( hy, Մակեդոն Հովսեփի Ասկարյան) on 10 July 1949 in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast, USSR – died 6 October 2018 in Berlin, Germany) was an international film director, producer, photographer and screenwriter of Armenian origin. Biography Don Askarian was born in Stepanakert in the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (current-day ''de facto'' Republic of Artsakh, ''de jure'' Azerbaijan). In 1967 he moved to Moscow and studied history and art, and worked as an assistant director and film critic for a year after his graduation. Askarian was imprisoned during 1975–1977, and in 1978 he emigrated from the Soviet Union to West Berlin. He lived and worked in Germany, The Netherlands and in Armenia, where he founded his own film companies. He was awarded numerous prizes at several international film festivals. Tirana International Film Festival
The Tirana International Film Festival (TIFF) is one of the major annual events taking place in Tirana each year. It was the first international cinema festival in Albania. This cultural event was created in 2003 and is currently the most important cinematic event in Albania. The Festival is competitive with the International Section jury awarding several prizes each year, most notably the "Golden Owl" for Best Feature Film. It is organised annually by the Albanian National Center of Cinematography. Arte (; (), sometimes stylized in lowercase or uppercase in its logo) is a European public service channel dedicated to culture. It is made up of three separate companies: the Strasbourg-based European Economic Interest Grouping ARTE, plus two member companies acting as editorial and programme production centres, ARTE France in Paris (formerly known as La Sept) and ARTE Deutschland in Baden-Baden (a subsidiary of the two main public German TV networks ARD and ZDF). As an international joint venture (an EEIG), its programmes focus on audiences in both countries.
