Dominique Rolin
Dominique Rolin (22 May 1913 – 15 May 2012) was a Belgian novelist. Dominique Rolin was a granddaughter of Léon Cladel.Henri Peyre, ''French Novelists of Today'', New York: Oxford University Press, 1967, p.438 Her career was launched by Jean Cocteau and Jean Paulhan during the Second World War. Over some sixty years she developed a unique, feminist voice in French novel-writing, blending seamlessly autobiography and fiction, and centered on two men, her first husband, a sculptor, and avant-garde writer and theorist Philippe Sollers with whom, in spite of an age gap, she had a half-century secret relationship. She was a Femina Prize winner and a member of the Belgian Royal Academy. Léon Cladel
Léon Cladel (Montauban, 22 March 1834 – 21 July 1892, Sèvres) was a French novelist. The son of an artisan, he studied law at Toulouse and became a solicitor's clerk in Paris. Cladel made a limited reputation by his first book, ''Les Martyrs ridicules'' (1862), a novel for which Charles Baudelaire, whose literary disciple Cladel was, wrote a preface. He then returned to his native district of Quercy in southwestern France, where he produced a series of stories of peasant life in ''Eral le dompteur'' (1865), ''Le Nomm Qouael'' (1868) and other volumes, similar to the works of Émile Pouvillon. Returning to Paris he published the two novels which are generally acknowledged as his best work, ''Le Bouscassié'' (1869) and ''La Fête votive de Saint-Bartholomée Porte-Glaive'' (1872). Feminism in France is the history of feminist thought and movements in France. Feminism in France can be roughly divided into three waves: First-wave feminism from the French Revolution through the Third Republic which was concerned chiefly with suffrage and civic rights for women. Significant contributions came from revolutionary movements of the French Revolution of 1848 and Paris Commune, culminating in 1944 when women gained the right to vote. Second-wave feminism began in the 1940s as a reevaluation of women's role in society, reconciling the inferior treatment of women in society despite their ostensibly equal political status to men. Pioneered by theorists such as Simone de Beauvoir, second wave feminism was an important current within the social turmoil leading up to and following the May 1968 events in France.
