Dominion Station
Dominion is a station on the transitway in Ottawa, Ontario. It is located north of the western edge of Westboro village, where the below-grade transitway segment joins the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway. The station is named after nearby Dominion Avenue. Opened on 29 November 1999 as an intermediate station between the long-established Lincoln Fields and Westboro stations, Dominion Station consists of two bus shelters and a grade level crosswalk rather than a true station with platforms. It has no connections to local routes but is actually very close (225m) to the commercial strip on Richmond Road in Westboro village and Westboro Beach. It serves a primarily residential neighbourhood which previously had only Frequent Route 11 service on Richmond Road for regular transit service. The Académie de Formation Linguistique building at 495 Richmond Road (the former Denis Coolican Building, originally operated by the City of Ottawa) is also served by this station. Ottawa Transitway
The Transitway is a bus rapid transit (BRT) network operated by OC Transpo in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It comprises a series of bus-only roadways and reserved lanes on city streets and highways. The dedicated busways ensure that buses and emergency vehicles on the Transitway rarely intersect directly with the regular traffic, and make it possible for them to continue at full speed even during rush hour. OC Transpo operates a network of rapid routes which use the Transitway to connect communities with the O-Train light rail system. Additional bus routes also use segments of the Transitway. The Transitway opened in 1983 with five stations. The network expanded greatly to include over fifty stations at its peak. Denis Coolican
Denis Murray Coolican (3 March 1913 – 20 October 1995) was a Canadian businessman and regional politician. Born in Ottawa, Coolican graduated from the University of Ottawa and McGill University in Montreal. His educational background was in science and engineering. He joined the Canadian Bank Note Company eventually becoming its president. Just prior to his political career, he joined Brazilian Traction, Light and Power Company in a senior management capacity. He became reeve of the village of Rockcliffe Park, Ontario in 1956 until 1966. In 1968 he was appointed the first Chair of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton and remained in that position until retiring in 1978. A regional social services building at 495 Richmond Road was named after Coolican in 1989. In 2003, following amalgamation of the region and its component cities into a single city of Ottawa, the building was declared surplus and sold to Canderel Realties. Bayshore Shopping Centre is a major shopping mall located in the Nepean district of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The mall is one of the busiest in the National Capital Region as it attracts almost 8 million visitors per year from across the city and the surrounding region. Confederation Line
The Confederation Line (french: Ligne de la Confédération), also called O-Train Line 1 (french: Ligne 1 de l'O-Train), is a light rail line operated by OC Transpo in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, as part of the city's O-Train light rail system. It opened on September 14, 2019, and is O-Train's second line. It operates on an east–west route, with a segment under Queen Street in the downtown core, complementing the north–south Trillium Line that operates to the west of the downtown core. Using light rail rolling stock and technology (e.g. pantograph electrical pickup from overhead catenary rather than a third rail), the Confederation Line is completely grade separated. Carling Avenue
Carling Avenue is a major east–west arterial road in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It runs from March Road in Kanata to Bronson Avenue in the Glebe. The road is named for John Carling, founder of Carling Brewery and Conservative MP and Senator, Postmaster General and Minister of Agriculture. Woodroffe Avenue
Woodroffe Avenue ( Ottawa Road #15) is a major north-south arterial road in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada's west end. It runs south from the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway through Baseline Road and Barrhaven to just short of Prince of Wales Drive near Manotick. The road runs through the heart of Nepean in Ottawa's west end. Richmond Road is a major road in Eastern Ontario, Canada. Richmond Road begins as a western continuation of Wellington Street West in Ottawa, beyond the intersection at Island Park Drive, a division point moved west a few blocks from Western Avenue, the historical township boundary, in 2005. It serves as the primary road for Westboro. Continuing westward, the road passes by Ottawa landmarks such as the Lincoln Fields Mall, Bayshore Shopping Centre and Queensway Carleton Hospital. Westboro Station (OC Transpo)
Westboro is a station in Ottawa, Ontario. It is located in the Westboro neighbourhood, on Scott Street between Athlone and Tweedsmuir avenues. The Transitway in the area was in a below-grade 'trench' parallelling Scott Street. Each platform had an elevator and stairway to the ground level above; the two sides were connected by an enclosed pedestrian bridge, and the ground-level station area also had platforms for local buses. In June 2022, this stretch of Transitway was permanently closed to facilitate O-Train Stage 2 construction. The bus stops were relocated to curbside along Scott Street, and the original station was closed. It is within walking distance of the Minto Metropole, Ottawa's second-tallest residential building.
