Domingo S. Ortiz
Domingo Steven "Sunny" Ortiz (born July 4, 1952) is an American musician best known as the longtime percussionist for Widespread Panic. Life and career Domingo Ortiz was born in 1952 to Victor and Faye Ortiz. He is of Mexican heritage and grew up in Waco, Texas. With his parents' help, he bought his first drum kit as a teenager. He played his first professional gig at the age of 15 in the 1960s at a bar with his Uncle Cruz's band. His parents were initially against the idea of him performing with a rock band but came around to the idea when they learned he would be paid $35 for the performance. Ortiz began his career on a standard drum set, but shifted to bongos, congas, timbales and other percussion instruments as a way to distinguish himself from other drummers in Texas. Blues Rock
Blues rock is a fusion music genre that combines elements of blues and rock music. It is mostly an electric ensemble-style music with instrumentation similar to electric blues and rock (electric guitar, electric bass guitar, and drums, sometimes with keyboards and harmonica). ''Door Harp'' is the first solo studio album by Michael Houser, former lead guitarist of Widespread Panic, released posthumously on September 24, 2002, on Sanctuary Records. Recorded in John Keane's studio in Athens, GA in March 2002, the all-instrumental album features Mikey on guitar, mandolin and piano. Bandmate Domingo S. Ortiz plays percussion, Keane plays guitar, keyboards and pedal steel guitar, and local musicians David Henry and Andy Carlson play violin and cello respectively. The album is all original tracks, with only ''Cleburne Terrace'' having been played previously by Widespread Panic on several occasions in the early 1990s. Musically it is a departure from the typical output of Widespread Panic, with very sparse arrangements and acoustic melodies, lilting lullabies and very little percussion. James Victor Chesnutt (November 12, 1964 – December 25, 2009) was an American singer-songwriter from Athens, Georgia. His first album, little (album), ''Little'', was released in 1990. His commercial breakthrough came in 1996 with the release of ''Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation'', a charity record of alternative artists covering his songs. Chesnutt released 17 albums during his career, including two produced by Michael Stipe, and a 1996 release on Capitol Records, ''About to Choke''. His musical style has been described by Bryan Carroll of AllMusic as a "skewed, refracted version of Americana (music), Americana that is haunting, funny, poignant, and occasionally mystical, usually all at once". Injuries from a 1983 car accident left him partially paralyzed; he used a wheelchair and had limited use of his hands. John "JoJo" Hermann is an American singer, musician and songwriter, best known for his involvement in the band Widespread Panic. Early life He was born in New York City and attended Collegiate School, where he was a classmate of actor Billy Wirth.''The Dutchman'' (the Collegiate School yearbook), 1975 edition, page 33 He began performing in small clubs, while in college and moved to Oxford, Mississippi after graduation. Hermann began songwriting and performing in 1983. After a friend of the band heard JoJo playing on an old upright piano at the Hoka Club also in Oxford.
