Domingo Monterrosa Barrios
José Domingo Monterrosa Barrios (4 August 1940 – 23 October 1984) was a military commander of the Armed Forces of El Salvador during the Salvadoran Civil War. Early life José Domingo Monterrosa Barrios was born on 4 August 1940 in Berlín, Usulután, El Salvador. Monterrosa graduated from the Captain General Gerardo Barrios Military School in 1963 and attended the School of the Americas in 1966. Military career In 1969, Monterrosa participated in the Football War against Honduras. In 1980, he was assigned to become the leader of the Atlácatl Battalion, composed of who considered to be El Salvador's elite soldiers. The Atlácatl Battalion was held responsible for committing the El Mozote massacre in 1981. Berlín is a municipality in the Usulután department of El Salvador. Etymology The city's name was suggested by Don Serafín Brennen, a German, who also founded the city. History The area of what is now Berlín was settled by the Lenca and Pipil peoples. Overview The municipality of Berlín is made up of an urban center (pop. approx. 12,000) and 17 cantons or villages (pop. approx. 30,000). The urban center is located at 1,020 meters above sea level in the mountains of eastern El Salvador, with the territory extending to lowland cantons (zona baja) on the Lempa River and to highland cantons (zona alta) at as much as 1,500 meters above sea level. Radio Venceremos
Radio Venceremos (Spanish; in English, "'We Shall Overcome' Radio") was an 'underground' radio network of the anti-government Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) during the Salvadoran Civil War. The station "specialized in ideological propaganda, acerbic commentary, and pointed ridicule of the government". The radio station was founded by Carlos Henríquez Consalvi (Santiago). Despite the end of the war in 1992, the network continues to broadcast. Carlos Mauricio Funes Cartagena (born 18 October 1959) is a Salvadoran politician and former journalist who served as President of El Salvador from 2009 to 2014. Funes won the 2009 Salvadoran presidential election, 2009 presidential election as the candidate of the Left-wing politics, left-wing Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) party and took office on 1 June 2009. Museum of the Revolution () is a museum commemorating the antecedents and events of the Salvadoran Civil War, which took place from approximately 1980 until 1992. The museum is located in Perquín, in the Morazán Department of El Salvador. This area was dominated during the war by the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN). The museum includes an exhibit honoring the FMLN's radio network, Radio Venceremos, as well as the weaponry used during the war years and a downed helicopter that had carried military leader Lt.
