Dom Valentino
Dominick "Dom" Valentino (December 21, 1928 – April 17, 2012) was an American sportscaster. Personal life Born in Brooklyn, New York, Valentino grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts. He earned a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University, and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Professional career Valentino began his broadcasting career in New England, calling Boston College football, basketball, and hockey as well as the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Boston Patriots of the American Football League. He went on to call games for the Cincinnati Royals, Kansas City-Omaha Kings, and New Orleans Jazz of the National Basketball Association in the 1960s and early '70s. In 1975, Valentino worked with the New York Yankees radio team, alongside Phil Rizzuto, Frank Messer and Bill White. Bill White (first Baseman)
William De Kova White (born January 28, 1934) is a former professional baseball first baseman who played for the New York / San Francisco Giants (1956, 1958), St. Louis Cardinals (1959–65, 1969) and Philadelphia Phillies (1966–68). He was an eight-time All-Star and seven-time Gold Glove winner, who earned a championship as a top contributor to the World Series Champions (STL Cardinals). In 1989 White was elected President of the National League to replace Bart Giamatti, who succeeded Peter Ueberroth as Commissioner. White served as NL president until he retired in 1994. White became a full-time sportscaster after his playing career ended in 1969, and was the play-by-play man and color analyst for New York Yankees television and radio broadcasts for 18 years. The New Orleans Pelicans are an American professional basketball team based in New Orleans. The Pelicans compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Western Conference Southwest Division and play their home games at the Smoothie King Center. Since 2014, the NBA officially considers New Orleans as an expansion team that began play in the 2002–03 season. The Pelicans were established as the New Orleans Hornets in the when George Shinn, then owner of the Charlotte Hornets, relocated the franchise to New Orleans. KMKY (1310 AM) is a radio station licensed to Oakland, California that broadcasts with 5,000 watts. It calls itself "Radio Punjab" and airs programming in Hindi and Punjabi aimed at the San Francisco Bay Area's South Asian community. It is owned by Charanjit Batth, through licensee Radio Punjab AM 1310 Inc. Its transmitter is located in Oakland near the toll plaza for the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge. The 1310 AM frequency from 1959 to 1997 was the home of Urban adult contemporary and Gospel music KDIA. The 1980 Oakland Athletics season was the team's thirteenth season in Oakland. The A's, under first-year manager Billy Martin, began the season with low expectations following their insipid 1979 campaign. Strong performances from pitchers Mike Norris, Matt Keough, and Rick Langford, along with the brilliant play of breakout star (and future Hall-of-Famer) Rickey Henderson, paved the way for a staggering 29-win increase over the previous year's output. The Athletics, only one year removed from baseball's worst record, swung to a second-place finish behind their 83-79 record. The season also marked the end of the Charlie Finley ownership era. Ted Robinson (sportscaster)
Theodore Robinson (born July 19, 1957) is an American sportscaster. Since 2000, Robinson has been with NBC Sports as a play-by-play announcer for tennis and Olympic swimming/diving and with NBC Sports Network calling college football and basketball. He also works for the Tennis Channel and the Pac-12 Network and was the radio play-by-play announcer for the San Francisco 49ers from 2009 until 2018. Biography Early life Ted Robinson grew up in Rockville Centre, New York, and attended Chaminade High School. He is a 1978 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he worked with future U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly and future Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis at the college radio station.
