Dolma Yangchen
Dolma Yangchen (born 1959 in Tibet) is the president of the Tibetan Women's Association (TWA). Career Dolma Yangchen studied at the Bangalore University before she began volunteering for MYRADA, a non-governmental organisation working to improve the lives of rural people in southern India. She later accepted a job with the organisation over a more lucrative one she was offered with a bank. With MYRADA Yangchen worked to establish women's self-help groups in the villages. She married in 1983 and left the organisation in 1986 to work with her husband. In 1995 she took a job at the Bylakuppe, Lugsung Samdupling Tibetan settlement, where she would remain until 2009. Yangchen was primarily involved in improving the agricultural prospects of the settlement and led an irrigation project that allowed for the cultivation of bananas, chillis and ginger for the first time. Dolma (Turkish for “stuffed”) is a family of stuffed dishes associated with Ottoman cuisine, and common in modern national cuisines of regions and countries that once were part of the Ottoman Empire. Some types of dolma are made with whole vegetables, fruit, offal or seafood, while others are made by wrapping grape, cabbage, or other leaves around the filling. Tibetan Women's Association
The Tibetan Women's Association (TWA) is a women's association based in McLeodGanj, Dharamshala, India. The group was officially formed on 10 September 1984 in India, by Rinchen Khando Choegyal, a former Tibetan Youth Congress activist, although the group itself claims that a precursor was created in Tibet during the 1959 Tibetan Rebellion. Stephanie Roemer traces the organization back to the Lhasa Patriotic Woman's Association, founded in 1953 by the People's Liberation Army, which introduced the idea of women participating in politics, which was "radical" to Tibet. During the 1960s and 1970s, organizations of Tibetan women made Tibetan clothing and carpets without pay for the exile Central Tibetan Administration, which sold them for profit. Bylakuppe
Bylakuppe is an area in Karnataka which is home to the Indian town Bylakuppe and several Tibetan settlements (there are several Tibetan settlements in India), established by Lugsum Samdupling (in 1961) and Dickyi Larsoe (in 1969). Bylakuppe is the second largest Tibetan settlement in the world outside Tibet after Dharamshala. It is located to the west of Mysore district in the Indian state of Karnataka which is roughly 80 km from Mysore city.
