Dollard was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1953 to 1988. History This riding was created in 1952 from parts of Laval and Mount Royal. In 1966, it was defined to consist of: * the City of Saint-Laurent; * the Towns of Dollard-des-Ormeaux and Roxboro; * two parts of the City of Pierrefonds, one situated northeast of the Town of Roxboro, and the other bounded on one side by Des Prairies River and on the three other sides by the Town of Roxboro; * the part of the City of Montreal bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the Montreal-Laurentians Autoroute and Des Prairies River; east following the Autoroute to the northwestern limit of the City of Saint-Laurent; along the limit with the City of Montreal to the northeastern limit of the City of Pierrefonds; northwest along that limit to Des Prairies River; and back to the Autoroute. Dollard, Saskatchewan
Dollard is an unincorporated community, within the Rural Municipality of Arlington No. 79, Saskatchewan, Canada. The community is situated on the historic Red Coat Trail in the southwest corner of the province, 13 km west of the town of Shaunavon and 21 km east of the town of Eastend. It is approximately 100 km from the Montana USA border and 130 km to the Alberta border. History By 1908 enough French speaking settlers had arrived in the region to establish a community which they named Valroy (Val Roy). The name was later changed to Dollard. The name Dollard was chosen by Father Louis-Pierre Gravel (the founder of Gravelbourg) to honour the memory of a hero of New France, Adam Dollard, Sieur des Ormeaux. A post office was established in 1909 and in 1911 the church of ''Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc'' (Joan of Arc) was built. A store soon followed and then a school in 1912. The post office closed in 1988. The Dollart (German name) or Dollard (Dutch name) is a bay in the Wadden Sea between the northern Netherlands and Germany, on the west side of the estuary of the Ems river. Most of it dries at low tide. Many water birds feed there. Gaining from and losing to the sea According to legend, the Dollart Bay was created by a catastrophic storm surge in 1277, covering the district of Reiderland and large parts of the Oldambt district. The flood was rumoured to have caused 80,000 deaths. The story, however, is not true and based on legend instead of facts. The Dollart was created as a slow inundation over many centuries which accumulated in a storm surge in 1509. The 1509 surge extended the Dollart, and flooded 30 more villages, and by 1520 the Dollart had its largest extension. Between the 16th and the 20th centuries, two thirds of the drowned area was reclaimed again. Dollard-des-Ormeaux (; commonly referred to as D.D.O. or simply Dollard) is a predominantly English-speaking suburb of Montreal in southwestern Quebec, Canada. It is located on the Island of Montreal. The town was named after French martyr Adam Dollard des Ormeaux. The town was merged with the city of Montreal in 2002, and became part of the borough of Dollard-Des Ormeaux–Roxboro. When residents were later offered the option, they chose to leave the city of Montreal, and the town was reinstated as a separate entity in 2006. Name The orthography of the city's name has been adjusted periodically. Originally written as Dollard-des-Ormeaux, it became Dollard des Ormeaux (no hyphens) in 1960, and reverted again to the hyphenated spelling in 1969. Dollard-Des Ormeaux–Roxboro is a former borough in the West Island area of Montreal, Quebec. It was composed of the former municipalities of Dollard-des-Ormeaux and Roxboro, and was formed on January 1, 2002. On June 20, 2004, Dollard-Des Ormeaux voted to return to being an independent municipality, effective January 1, 2006. Roxboro elected to stay part of Montreal, although this result is being challenged in court. It was incorporated into the new borough of Pierrefonds—Roxboro. Geography The borough was located in the northeastern part of the West Island. It was bounded to the north by Pierrefonds—Senneville, to the southeast by Saint-Laurent, to the south by Dorval—L'Île-Dorval, to the southwest by Pointe-Claire, and to the west by Kirkland. Pierrefonds—Dollard is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1988. Its population was 108,587 at the 2016 Canadian Census. This riding occupies the northwest part of the Island of Montreal on Lac des Deux-Montagnes and Rivière des Prairies. It contains the cities of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Pierrefonds, Roxboro and L'Île-Bizard. This riding is home to a number of pharmaceutical companies.
