Dokolo is a town in the Northern Region of Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative, and commercial centre of Dokolo District. Okello Oculi (born 1 January 1942) is a Ugandan novelist, poet, and chronicler of rural African village life. Currently, he is a private political and social consultant based in Abuja, Nigeria. Before that, he served as Professor of Social & Economic Research at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria. Background He was born in 1942, in Dokolo District, Northern Uganda, back when the district was still part of Lira District. Langi People
The Lango are a Nilo- Hamitic ethnic group of the Ateker peoples. They live in north-central Uganda, in a region that covers the area formerly known as the Lango District until 1974, when it was split into the districts of Apac and Lira, and subsequently into several additional districts. The current Lango Region now includes the districts of Amolatar, Alebtong, Apac, Dokolo, Kole, Lira, Oyam, Otuke, and Kwania. The total population of the Lango District is around 1,500,000. The Lango speak in “ LebLango”, a mixture of Ateker peoples dialects and broken Luo languages. As of 17 November 2020, Uganda is divided into 136 districts and the capital city of Kampala, which are grouped into four administrative regions. Since 2005, the Ugandan government has been in the process of dividing districts into smaller units.
