Dora Baltea () or Doire Baltée () is a river in northwestern Italy. It is a left-hand tributary of the Po and is about long. Name The river's Latin name was ''Duria maior'', ''Duria Baltica'' or ''Duria Bautica''. Strabo called it Δουριας (''Dourias'') in Greek. The name "Duria" is from the Celtic root *''dubr-'' ("flow"), found in many European river names such as Douro / Duero; it derives from Proto-Indo-European *''dʰew-'' ("flow"). The second part may derive from the Illyrian root *''balta'' ("‘swamp, marsh, white clay"). In the local languages, the river is called , frp, label= Valdôtain, Djouiye; pms, Deura Bàotia. Valdôtain (; local dialect: ''Valdotèn'', ''Valdŏtèn'', ''Valdouhtan'') is a dialect of Arpitan (Franco-Provençal) spoken in the Aosta Valley in Italy. Val Veny (also Val Vény) is a lateral valley of the Mont Blanc massif, lying to the south-west of Courmayeur. The valley head is at the Seigne Pass. Geography Val Veny was formed by two glaciers: the Miage Glacier and the Brenva Glacier. Brenva Glacier
The Brenva Glacier (french: Glacier de la Brenva, it, Ghiacciaio della Brenva) is a valley glacier, located on the southern side of the Mont Blanc massif in the Alps. It is the second longest and eighth largest glacier in Italy, and descends down into Val Veny, close to Entrèves, near Courmayeur. Over the centuries it has experienced a number of major rock avalanches which have shaped the glacier and influenced its movement. The Miage Glacier (french: Glacier du Miage; it, Ghiacciaio del Miage) is a debris-covered glacier in the upper Aosta Valley, in northwestern Italy. Description It is situated on the southwest flank of the Mont Blanc massif, flowing from the Col de Bionnassay ( above sea level) in a generally southerly direction towards Val Veny. Its most northerly arm or tributary is the Glacier de Bionnassay Italien, which arises from a cirque between the south eastern side of the Aiguille de Bionnassay, the Col de Bionnassay and the Calotte des Aiguille Grises. Val Ferret
Val Ferret is the name shared by two valleys separated by the Col Ferret, a pass on the border between Italy and Switzerland. The valleys lie southeast of Mont Blanc Massif. The Swiss valley drains northeast towards Orsières and on into the Rhône basin; whereas the Italian valley drains southwest towards Courmayeur and on into the Po basin. The two valleys are connected by a mountain footpath through Col Ferret which forms part of the circular Tour du Mont Blanc route.
