Dog River (Ontario)
Dog River is a river located northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. It enters the northern end of Big Dog Lake and drains at the southern end, continuing to Little Dog Lake and then to its confluence with the Matawin River to form Kaministiquia River. The name "Kaministiquia" comes from an Ojibwe word meaning "where the rivers meet". It derives its name from a large effigy of a dog dug into the ridge separating Big and Little Dog Lakes. Ojibwe Indians created the effigy to honour a dog which had alerted their sleeping village of an impending attack by the Cree. The 'dog' was found and excavated by Professor Kenneth Dawson and is located on the crest of a hill with a view above the hydro standpipe.Eric C. ''Corner Gas'' is a Canadian television sitcom created by Brent Butt. The series ran for six seasons from 2004 to 2009. Re-runs still air on CTV, CTV2, CTV Comedy Channel, Much, MTV, E! and are streaming on Crave and Amazon Prime. The series was followed by a feature film titled '' Corner Gas: The Movie'', with the entire cast reprising their roles. The film was released for a limited theatrical run in December 2014. Deriving its name from the roadside gas station in the fictional town of Dog River, Saskatchewan, Corner Gas is the only gas station for in any direction. The Dog River is a river in Mobile County, Alabama. The Dog River watershed drains more than . The river is about long and is influenced by tides. It originates at within the city of Mobile. It discharges into Mobile Bay, a tidal estuary on the northern Gulf of Mexico, at near Hollinger's Island. It was named by the original French colonists as the Riviere Au Chien, which can be translated into English as Dog River. Dog River is a brackish river - a mixture of fresh and saltwater. Also known to be a shallow river with the average depth at around 9–12 feet deep with some areas along the wetlands being only 1–2 feet at mid-tide. There are both fresh and salt water fish species including bass, bream, mullet, redfish, croakers, speckled trout and flounder. Most land connected to the river is privately owned however there are several parks and public boat launch areas. Boaters can refuel at the marinas located at the river's mouth. The Dog Salmon River is a tributary of the Ugashik River in the U.S. state of Alaska. Beginning on the flanks of Mount Kialagvik, it flows northwest through the Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge to meet the larger river southwest of Ugashik, Alaska, Ugashik, at the head of Ugashik Bay, an arm of Bristol Bay. It descends to the upper reaches of the bay from an elevation of in a valley of the Aleutian Range between Mount Chiginagak and Mount Kialagvik. Among its feeder streams are Figure Eight, Goblet, and Wandering creeks. It is shallow with many oxbow turns and is not navigable.
