Doctor Yellow
is the nickname for a series of high-speed diagnostic trains that are used on Central Japan Railway Company, JR Central's Tokaido Shinkansen and West Japan Railway Company, JR West's San'yō Shinkansen lines. The trains have special equipment on board to monitor the condition of the track and Overhead lines, overhead wires, including special instrumented bogies and observation blisters. Line inspection is carried out at full speed, up to on the Tōkaidō Shinkansen and on the Sanyō Shinkansen. Doctor Yellow trains make three round trips between and Hakata Station every month. Depending on the day, trains follow the stopping pattern of either Nozomi (train), Nozomi or Kodama (train), Kodama trains. The was a six-car Japanese Shinkansen train built in 1979 as the prototype for the new ( 200 series) trains to be operated on the Tōhoku Shinkansen and Jōetsu Shinkansen routes. The was a Shinkansen high-speed train type introduced by Japanese National Railways (JNR) for the Tohoku Shinkansen and Joetsu Shinkansen high-speed rail lines in Japan, and operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East) until 2013.
