''Doctor Who'' is a British science fiction television series broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The series depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need. ''Torchwood'' is a British science fiction television programme created by Russell T Davies. A spin-off of the 2005 revival of ''Doctor Who'', it aired from 2006 to 2011. The show shifted its broadcast channel each series to reflect its growing audience, moving from BBC Three to BBC Two to BBC One, and acquiring American financing in its fourth series when it became a co-production of BBC One and Starz. ''Torchwood'' is aimed at adults and older teenagers, in contrast to ''Doctor Who''s target audience of both adults and children. ''The Sarah Jane Adventures'' is a British science fiction television programme that was produced by BBC Cymru Wales for CBBC, created by Russell T Davies, and starring Elisabeth Sladen. The programme is a spin-off of the long-running BBC science fiction programme '' Doctor Who'' and is aimed at a younger audience than ''Doctor Who''. It focuses on the adventures of Sarah Jane Smith, an investigative journalist who, as a young woman, had numerous adventures across time and space with the Doctor. Following Sladen's sudden death from cancer, the BBC confirmed that the show would not return for a sixth series. ''Class'' is a British science fiction drama programme, and a spin-off of the long-running programme ''Doctor Who''. Outpost Gallifrey was a fan website for the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. It was active as a complete fansite from 1995 until 2007, then existing solely as a portal to the still-active parts of the site, including its news page and forums (rebranded as The Doctor Who News Page and The Doctor Who Forum, but still part of the original site architecture) until July 31, 2009. Gallifrey Base is an Internet forum dedicated to discussion of the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. It has been described as "one of the largest ''Doctor Who'' fan forums". Gallifrey Base was founded as the successor to the forums associated with the ''Doctor Who'' fan site Outpost Gallifrey. That site's owner, Shaun Lyon, had decided to close the site and its popular forum. Steven Hill, who had worked as chief administrator for the Outpost Gallifrey forum, decided to create his own site, and many of the staff and readers of the Outpost Gallifrey forums moved to Gallifrey Base. ''SFX'' is a British magazine covering the topics of science fiction and fantasy. Its name is a reference to the abbreviated form of "special effects". Description ''SFX'' magazine is published every four weeks by Future plc and was founded in 1995. The magazine covers topics in the genres of popular science fiction, fantasy, and horror, within the media of films, television, video games, comics, and literature. According to the magazine's website, the ''SF'' stands for "science fiction", but the ''X'' doesn't stand for anything in particular. The long-running British science fiction television series '' Doctor Who'' has developed a large fan base over the years. ''Doctor Who'' fans are sometimes referred to as Whovians, or simply as the ''Doctor Who'' fandom. The usage of "Whovian" was restricted to fans in the United States during the 1980s, when the ''Doctor Who Fan Club of America'' (pronounced by members as Dwifca – now defunct) published the ''Whovian Times'' as its newsletter.
