Dobwalls And Trewidland
Dobwalls and Trewidland ( kw, Fos an Mogh & Trewydhlann) is a former civil parish in south-east Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The parish was bounded to the north by St Neot and St Cleer parishes, to the east by Liskeard and Menheniot parishes, to the south by Morval parish, to the west by the East Looe River and the parishes of St Pinnock and St Keyne, and to the south-west by Duloe parish. The two largest villages in the parish were Dobwalls and Doublebois , both in the north of the parish. There were several smaller villages in the south of the parish including Trewidland and Horningtops, and the hamlet of Boduel to the north. The hamlets of Coombe, East Tuelmenna, Treburgie and Twelvewoods were also in the parish. The ancient village of Dobwalls was originally in Liskeard parish until the separate civil parish of Dobwalls and Trewidland was created. Trewidland
Trewidland ( kw, Trewythelan) is a hamlet in the civil parish of St Keyne and Trewidland, in east Cornwall, England. It is about two miles northeast of Duloe. It is situated in the Looe Valley, which has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village shop and post office closed some years ago, as did the two Methodist chapels. There is also no pub in the village. Most residents rely on the local market town of Liskeard, approximately 3 miles away, for shopping and other local services. However, it does have a primary school, a village hall, and a snooker room. Caradon
Caradon was a local government district in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It contained five towns: Callington, Liskeard, Looe, Saltash and Torpoint, and over 80 villages and hamlets within 41 civil parishes. Its District Council was based in Liskeard . The district was formed on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, by the merger of the boroughs of Liskeard and Saltash with the urban districts of Looe and Torpoint, along with Liskeard Rural District and St Germans Rural District. The district was named after Caradon Hill, the principal landmark of the area, and formerly the site of important copper mines. The geology of Cornwall, England, is dominated by its granite backbone, part of the Cornubian batholith, formed during the Variscan orogeny. St Keyne Wishing Well Halt Railway Station
St Keyne Wishing Well Halt railway station ( kw, Gorta Fenten Geyn) is an intermediate station on the scenic Looe Valley Line in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It serves the village of St Keyne and is adjacent to the "Magnificent Music Machines" museum of fairground organs and similar instruments. St Keyne's Well is a holy well dedicated to Saint Keyne, located about south of the station. History The Liskeard and Looe Railway was opened on 27 December 1860 to carry goods traffic; passenger trains started on 11 September 1879. The railway in those days connected only with the Liskeard and Caradon Railway at Moorswater. Dobwalls ( kw, Fos an Mogh) is a village and civil parish in south-east Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated 3 mi (5 km) west of Liskeard. The name is spelt ''Dubwalls'' on Bartholomew's map and '' Black's Guide'' of 1879. The A38 trunk road ran through the village until the bypass was opened on 19 December 2008. The bypass has two of the most elaborate bat bridges built so far in the UK (previous examples in Wales being wooden posts with cables). Twelve native species of bats are found in the area. Until 2006, the Dobwalls Adventure Park tourist attraction was located north of the village.
