"Do Something" is a song written by Sam H. Stept and Bud Green for the Paramount Pictures film '' Nothing But the Truth'' (1929), in which the song was performed by Helen Kane. The scene of Kane singing this song is missing from the only existing print of the movie. Kane also had a hit recording of the song for Victor Records, which she recorded in 1929. The sheet music, bearing Kane's photo, and phonograph record both state that the song is from ''Nothing But the Truth''. The song was also used in the soundtrack of the film ''Syncopation'' (1929) where it was sung by Dorothy Lee. Bud Green (19 November 1897 – 2 January 1981) was an American lyricist especially of Broadway musicals and show tunes Early life and family Green was born Moses David Green in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and immigrated to the United States as an infant. Bud Green (Buddy) grew up in Harlem at 108th & Madison Avenue at the turn of the 20th century, the eldest of seven. He dropped out of elementary school to sell newspapers and help the family. While selling papers, he decided to become a songwriter and started keeping a notebook of poems and rhymes that he thought would be useful someday. Helen Kane (born Helen Clare Schroeder, August 4, 1904 – September 26, 1966) was an American singer and actress. Her signature song was " I Wanna Be Loved by You" (1928), featured in the 1928 stage musical ''Good Boy''. The song was written for ''Good Boy'' by the songwriting team Kalmar and Ruby. Kane's voice and appearance were thought to be a source for Fleischer Studios animators when creating Betty Boop. Kane attempted to sue the studio for claims of stealing her signature "boop-oop-a-doop" style, but the judge decided that the proof of this was insufficient, thus dismissing the case. ''Syncopation'' is a 1929 American pre-Code musical film directed by Bert Glennon and starring Barbara Bennett, Bobby Watson, and Ian Hunter (although top billing went to Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians). It was the second film produced by RKO Radio Pictures and the first to be released by the studio; the company's first produced film, ''Street Girl'', was not released until August 1929. The film was made at the company's New York City studios and is based on the novel ''Stepping High'' by Gene Markey. The film was heavily marketed on its release, being the first film to be broadcast over the radio, as well as RKO's first sound musical, and was a significant success. Dorothy Lee (born Marjorie Elizabeth Millsap, May 23, 1911 – June 24, 1999) was an American actress and comedian during the 1930s. She appeared in 28 films, usually appearing alongside the Wheeler & Woolsey comedy team. Biography Born in Los Angeles, Marjorie Elizabeth Millsap was the daughter of Homer and Bess Millsap. ''Boop-Oop-a-Doop'' is an animated short film created by Fleischer Studios on January 16, 1932, as part of the Talkartoon series. Plot The film begins with a giant Betty Boop flag which flies over the big top. Betty works as a lion tamer and a tightrope walker. Another of the other circus attractions is Koko the Clown. While performing on the highwire the villainous ringmaster lusts for Betty as he watches her from below, singing "Do Something," a song previously performed by Helen Kane.
