Do It Records
Do It Records was a British independent record label based in London, England. It was an early label of Adam and the Ants, releasing their debut album ''Dirk Wears White Sox'' in November 1979 (which in January 1980 was the first ever number one on the UK Independent Albums Chart and in February 1981 became a UK Top 20 album) as well as singles "Zerox" in June 1979 and "Cartrouble" in March 1980, the latter being not only a number one on the UK Independent Singles Chart but also the first collaboration between Adam Ant and Marco Pirroni, following the departure of the original Ants to form Bow Wow Wow. The company was founded in 1978 by Robin Scott, Max Tregoning and Ian Tregoning. Over the next six years, it released several recordings by M, Adam and the Ants, Anthony Moore, Renaldo and the Loaf, the Mothmen and Yello, among others. His career encompasses six decades. Life and career Early life Scott was born in Croydon, Surrey, where he attended Croydon Art College and met Malcolm McLaren in the late 1960s. He declined their offer to be involved in SEX, the Chelsea clothes shop which McLaren and Westwood launched, preferring to make his career in music. Yello
Yello is a Swiss electronic music band, which formed in Zürich in 1979. For most of the band's history, Yello has been a duo consisting of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank; founding member Carlos Perón left in 1983. Their sound is often characterised by unusual music samples and a heavy reliance on rhythm, with Meier as vocalist and lyricist, and Blank providing the music. Among their best known singles are " Oh Yeah" (1985), which has appeared in many films and television shows including ''Ferris Bueller's Day Off'', '' The Secret of My Success'', ''Uncle Buck'' and ''The Simpsons''; and " The Race" (1988), which peaked at number 7 on the UK Singles Chart. Sony Music Entertainment (SME), also known as simply Sony Music, is an American multinational music company. CBS Records International was the international arm of the Columbia Records unit of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc. (CBS) formed in 1961 and launched in 1962. Previously, Columbia Records had licensed other record companies to manufacture and distribute Columbia recordings outside North America (excluding Canada by 1976), such as Philips Records and its subsidiary Fontana (now part of the Universal Music Group) in Europe. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days.
