Dnepropetrovsk
Dnipro, previously called Dnipropetrovsk from 1926 until May 2016, is Ukraine's fourth-largest city, with about one million inhabitants. It is located in the eastern part of Ukraine, southeast of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on the Dnieper River, after which its Ukrainian language name (Dnipro) it is named. Dnipro is the administrative centre of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. It hosts the administration of Dnipro urban hromada. Shevchenkivskyi District, Dnipro
Shevchenkivskyi District ( uk, Шевченківський район) is a right-bank urban district of the city of Dnipro, located in southern Ukraine. It is formerly known as Babushkinskyi District. History The district was formed on 12 April 1973 from the territory of Zhovtnevyi, Kirovskyi and Krasnohvardiiskyi districts and was named after Russian Bolshevik revolutionary Ivan Babushkin. On 26 November 2015 the district was renamed by the Dnipropetrovsk city council to its current name to comply with decommunization laws. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast ( uk, Дніпропетро́вська о́бласть, translit=Dnipropetrovska oblast), also referred to as Dnipropetrovshchyna ( uk, Дніпропетро́вщина), is an administrative divisions of Ukraine, oblast (province) of central-eastern Ukraine, the most important industrial region of the country. It was created on February 27, 1932. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast has a population of about approximately 80% of whom live centering on administrative centers: Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Kamianske, Nikopol, Ukraine, Nikopol and Pavlohrad. Sobornyi District () is an urban district of the city of Dnipro, in southern Ukraine. It is located in the city's center on the right-bank of the Dnieper River. History According to archeological finds, in the Paleolithic period (7—3 thousand ''Anno Domini'') human settlements appear on Monastyrskyi Island; which is located in Sobornyi District. Traces of Cimmerian settlements during the Bronze Age have been found near today's Sobornyi District's . Tsentralnyi District ( uk, Центральний район) is an urban district of the city of Dnipro, in southern Ukraine. It is located in the city's center and on the right-bank of the Dnieper River. History The district was originally created in 1932 as the Tsentralnyi Nahornyi District. on 2 December 1934, after the death of Sergei Kirov, it was renamed as the Kirovskyi District. The Saviour's Transfiguration Cathedral ( uk, Спасо-Преображенський кафедральний собор, russian: Спасо-Преображенский собор) is the main Orthodox church of Dnipro, Ukraine. History The foundation stone was laid on by Catherine II of Russia and Austrian Emperor Joseph II, during Catherine's Crimean journey. The event is described in the memoirs of comte de Ségur. Prince Grigory Potemkin envisioned the church as one of the spiritual centres of New Russia. Ivan Starov submitted to Potemkin his designs for a Roman-style basilica, but construction was postponed until the end of the Russo-Turkish War. In the early 19th century, Potemkin's plans were revived and updated by Duc de Richelieu, but construction did not start until 1830. Proposition ( uk, Пропозиція) is a Ukrainian political party founded in 2020 by the mayors of six major cities: Borys Filatov of Dnipro, Andriy Raykovych of Kropyvnytskyi, Oleksiy Kaspruk of Chernivtsi, Oleksandr Senkevych of Mykolaiv, Andriy Dyachenko of Kakhovka, and Serhii Sukhomlyn of Zhytomyr. This is a complete list of cities in Ukraine. On 1 January 2022, there were 461 cities ( uk, місто, ''misto'') in Ukraine. City status is granted by the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament. The city status is only partially related to the size of a populated place in Ukraine. Smaller settlements are urban-type settlements (comparable to towns in English-speaking countries) and villages ( uk, село, ''selo''). Historically, there were systems of city rights, granted by the territorial lords, which defined the status of a place as a ''misto'' or ''selo''.
