Dnipro, previously called Dnipropetrovsk from 1926 until May 2016, is Ukraine's fourth-largest city, with about one million inhabitants. Dnepr ( uk, Дніпро) is a motorcycle brand produced in Kyiv, Ukraine. It has been in use since 1967. Motorcycles have been produced in Kyiv since 1946 at the Kyiv Motorcycle Plant (''Kyivskyi Mototsykletnyi Zavod'' (KMZ), Київський Мотоциклетний Завод, (КМЗ)). Initial production was of a 98 cc two-stroke model that was confiscated from the German firm Wanderer as reparations. The original design for KMZ heavy motorcycles, and their cousin the IMZ, is taken from the pre-World War II German BMW motorcycle R71, which the Soviet Union licensed in 1940. The plant and equipment needed to make the M-72 (the Soviet derivative of the BMW R71) was transferred from the Gorky Motorcycle Plant (''Gorkovskyi Mototsykletnyi Zavod'', GMZ located in the city of Gorkiy (Nizhny Novgorod) in 1949. The Dnepr rocket (russian: Днепр, translit=Dnepr; uk, Дніпро, translit=Dnipró) was a space launch vehicle named after the Dnieper River. It was a converted ICBM used for launching artificial satellites into orbit, operated by launch service provider ISC Kosmotras. 39th Motorized Infantry Battalion (Ukraine)
The 39th Motorized Infantry Battalion "Dnipro-2" was a military formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces in 2014-2016. The battalion was created in May 2014 in response to Russian aggression as a 39th volunteer territorial defense battalion "Dnipro-2" from the residents of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Fighters of the battalion took part in fierce battles for Ilovaisk in August 2014. It was disbanded in 2016 and transformed into 55th Artillery Brigade (Ukraine).
