Dmitry Neverovsky
Dmitry Petrovich Neverovsky (1771–1813) was a Russian military officer and general who served in the Russo-Turkish War and the Napoleonic Wars. He served in the Battle of Smolensk, Battle of Borodino, and Battle of Leipzig, where he was mortally wounded. Born to a minor noble in Poltava, in modern-day Ukraine. He would join the army at 15 years of age. Life Dmitry Neverovsky was born in Poltava, in what is now Ukraine. His father was a middle-ranking official at the time, and Neverovsky grew up alongside fourteen other children. Like many inhabitants of Ukraine at the time, Neverovsky was a fine horseman. Young Neverovsky found a patron in Count Pyotr Zavadovsky, a friend of his father's. Zavadovsky assisted in Neverovsky's education, enabling him to learn Russian and Latin and become a mathematician. Pavlovsky Life Guards Regiment
Pavlovsky Guard Regiment (russian: Павловский лейб-гвардии полк) was a Russian Imperial Guard infantry regiment. It was formed out of 2 battalions of the Moscow Grenadiers in November 19, 1796. They were given the title of Pavlovsky Life-Guard on April 13, 1813 for their deeds during the 1812 Patriotic war. First Battle Of Krasnoi
The First Battle of Krasnoi was a battle fought on 14 August between Ney's French troops and Neverovsky's Russian troops. It ended with a victory for the French, but the Russians retreated in good order to Smolensk. Prelude Bagration had reinforced Neverovsky's troops with some cavalry and ordered him to cover Krasnoi and especially westwards the direction of Orsha. Battle Ney drove him out of Krasnoi and captured part of his artillery, the first trophies of the entire campaign. Neverovsky assembled his 6,000 to 7,000 men into a huge square Ney's cavalry could not break. The square moved across the field over a palisade fence and Ney's cavalry could not follow. Neverovsky's troops were able to get away in good order but left 1,500 men behind. Aftermath Neverovsky returned to Smolensk and reported. The battle of Smolensk started only two days later. George Dawe
George Dawe (6 February 1781 – 15 October 1829) was an English portraitist who painted 329 portraits of Russian generals active during Napoleon's invasion of Russia for the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace. He relocated to Saint Petersburg in 1819, where he won acclaim for his work from the artistic establishment and complimentary verses by Pushkin. He was the son of Philip Dawe, a successful mezzotint engraver who also produced political cartoons relating to the events of the Boston Tea Party. One of his brothers was Henry Edward Dawe, also a portraitist. He died on 15 October 1829 in Kentish Town, United Kingdom.
