Dmitry Nikolaevich Sokolov (alternate spelling: Dmitri Sokolov) (russian: Дмитрий Николаевич Соколов; born January 21, 1985) is a Russian professional basketball player for Khimki of the VTB United League. He plays at the center position. Professional career Sokolov has played with Dynamo Stavropol, Pulkovo St. Petersburg, Lokomotiv Rostov, UNICS Kazan, and CSKA Moscow during his professional career. He joined CSKA in June 2009. He returned to UNICS Kazan in 2013. In June 2015, he left UNICS. On July 31, 2015, he signed a one-year deal with Krasny Oktyabr. On December 16, 2015, he left them and signed with Khimki for the rest of the season. On June 23, 2016, he re-signed with Khimki for one more season. He returned to Khimki in March, 2019. Dmitri Petrovich Sokolov (russian: Дмитрий Петрович Соколов; 20 May 1924 – 4 July 2009) was a Russian biathlon competitor who won one gold and three silver medals at the world championships in 1958–61. He competed at the 1960 Winter Olympics and finished sixth. Life and work Dmitri Petrovich Sokolov was born on May 20, 1924, in the village of , Yurgamyshsky District, , Ural Oblast, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (now Kurgan Oblast, Russia). After graduating from school Sokolov worked at a cement factory in Chelyabinsk and between 1942 and 1952 served in the Red Army (from 1946 – Soviet Army). He fought in World War II and in 1985 was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War. In 1952-1958 he lived in Kurgan, Kurgan Oblast, worked as a coach in skiing and biathlon. Dmitri Ivanovich Sokolov
Dmitri Ivanovich Sokolov (russian: Соколов Дмитрий Иванович 1788 – 19 November 1852) was a Russian geologist and specialist on mining who was a teacher at the Saint Petersburg Mining University, St. Petersburg mining institute and a professor at Saint Petersburg State University, St Petersburg University. He wrote some of the first Russian textbooks on mineralogy and geology, founded the first geology periodical in Russian and organized the geological museum of the university. Sokolov was born in St. Petersburg where his father was a locksmith and inventor. After the death of his father, he went, as an eight year old, to the mining school in St. Petersburg. He graduated in 1805 and in 1809 he received a master's degree. He then taught mineralogy, geognosy and assaying. From 1822 he was also a professor at St Petersburg University.
