Dmitri Sinodi-Popov
Dmitri Minaevich Sinodi-Popov (Russian ''Дмитрий Минаевич Синоди-Попов'') (1855 – 1910) was a Russian artist of Greek descent. Dmitri Sinodi-Popov was born in the city of Taganrog, where he received a good education at home: violin, French, Italian and Greek languages and was very good at the visual arts. In 1870, Sinodi-Popov entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, where the amateur artist acquired good practical skills, but he had to interrupt his studies because he was suffering from epilepsy. In late 1870s, the artist returned to his home city of Taganrog, continued his art studies and painted a lot. Most of the sketches available at the Taganrog Museum of Art and Taganrog State Museum date back to late 1870s - early 1900s. Most of the visual heritage left by the artist is in the form of drawings. Taganrog Museum of Art (russian: Таганрогский художественный музей) was officially inaugurated in 1968, but the basis of the museum collection was formed by the end of the 19th century, when the art department of the Taganrog's city museum was established. Renowned playwright and short-story writer Anton Chekhov played a major role in establishing the collection of his home city through his connections in St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and his friends like Mark Antokolski etc. The most important part of the museum collection was formed in the Soviet Union time, and features two departments - Russian art before the Russian Revolution of 1917 and Soviet art. Seraphima Iasonovna Blonskaya (Leontovskaya) (russian: Блонская, Серафима Иасоновна, 3 October 1870 – 9 August 1947) was a Russian artist and art teacher. Seraphima Blonskaya was born on October 3, 1870 in Verkhnodniprovsk of Yekaterinoslav Governorate, Russian Empire (now in Ukraine). In 1875 her family moved to Taganrog. In 1887 Blonskaya graduated with a golden medal from the Mariinskaya Gymnasium (Таганрогская мариинская гимназия) and entered the Art School of Mykola Burachek in Kiev that she finished in 1891. In 1892-1900, she studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg. In 1900 Blonskaya was honored with the title of the artist for her degree work painting ''The Girls'' (''Palm Sunday''). In 1909 Blonskaya returned to Taganrog with her husband artist Leontovski, and in 1910 they founded an art school. After the death of her husband in 1928, the school was closed.
